He has really surprised me on just how ineffective he is in the pros. He had such a beautiful stride, except when he was running on us. I really thought he was going to be a heck of a WR, but I was way off. And now his career may get even worse.

What a punk. I have a cousin that that had all of the talent in the world. Major league scouts were all over him and he lost it all because of drugs and gambling.

I think he was very effective once he learned the WR position he's been playing for Jacksonville! I'm not sure what you expected of a guy his size, but I think he's done a super job. His biggest problem in my opinion is the fact that he had a terrible QB who couldn't get him the ball effectively.

Also, given that this is his first offense the NFL will give him a break and I don't believe he'll be suspended given the new league substance abuse policies and since he was "using" and not dealing he'll basically get a slap on the wrist and community service in Ark. Hopefully the idiot will not allow this to kill his life!

First and foremost, Jones has been terrible on the field, and it's not just QB play. In fact, David Garrard had the best season last year of any NFL QB not named Brady or Manning (Peyton, that is), and Jones was still terrible. He barely averaged six yards per catch, finished 67th in DVOA, and was the fourth receiver on a team that doesn't have any quality receivers to begin with.

And using does violate the substance abuse policy... in fact that's what the substance abuse policy is all about. He'll be suspended, without pay, at least four games (assuming no prior drug record), and either way you can almost bet your bottom dollar he will be cut by the Jags.

Matt Jones Career Stats

First round picks aren't supposed to have 41 receptions in a season be their career high. Not to mention, last year, he was 6th on the team in receptions! For a 6'6" guy who ran a blazing 40 at the combine, this is not what was expected.

Playing devil's advocate here... if I'm going to be sitting in the back of a vehicle doing some yaho with 2 other guys sitting in the front of the same vehicle then those 2 other guys better be watching for someone to walk up on said vehicle.

Man! Mike Shula can't control anyone, no matter what team he's coaching for!! ;)

A comment on an NFL board was "Maybe he just made a pick-up but then again if I was making athlete money I would pay to have it dropped off."

Response: "That's interesting, since Jones usually drops what he tries to pick up on Sundays."

Wrong, but funny.

The problem with the Cocaine is that the quality control measures taken in the manufacturing facilities as well as the certification of the chemist in charge of production are difficult to ascertain.

That and given the lack of a standard for manufacturing the stuff, no one really has any idea as to what constitutes a dose.

Matt Jones had all the tools (athletically and personally) to be a star in Jacksonville. Being a good 'ol boy, liking to fish, etc. really endured him to the Jacksonville faithful.

Instead, he showed up in Jacksonville being lazy and having a lackadaisical attitude, poor work ethic and did diddly squat on the field. In short order he became one of the least favorite players in Jacksonville. And that is no one's fault but his own.

Good riddance!
