The two teams went scoreless until the fifth with the Tigers taking the decisive lead in the sixth

AUBURN, AL –
Alabama fell to 20th-ranked Auburn, 3-2, on Friday night at Plainsman Park. The Crimson Tide is now 27-23 overall and 10-15 in Southeastern Conference play.

Another Friday night pitcher's duel saw both teams go scoreless until the fifth. That inning saw Auburn gain the advantage with a pair of two-out runs. Alabama came right back to even things up in the top of the sixth, using a two-run home run from Drew Williamson to make it a 2-2 ballgame. The Tigers countered with one in the home half of the sixth for what would prove to be the difference.

Garrett McMillan (4-4) was handed the loss on Friday night despite another solid start. The junior allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts across 5.2 innings of work. He handed the ball over to Brock Guffey, with the Tide reliever contributing 2.1 scoreless frames and a season-high five strikeouts. Auburn reliever John Armstrong (1-0) picked up the win while Blake Burkhalter collected his 12th save with a scoreless ninth.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"This was a great college baseball game. We had the same number of hits; we may have even barreled more balls than they did. Garrett McMillan and Brock Guffey were both outstanding. This is kind of the story of our season – this is our 12th loss by one run, and it seems like the other team has a knack for getting the big hit when it matters. We have a quick turnaround with the day game tomorrow, and tomorrow's got to be the day that we get a big hit with a runner in scoring position while pitching as well as G-Mac and Brock did tonight."

How It Happened
  • B5 | A two-out RBI-single followed by a double to left-center plated two for the Tigers. (2-0, Auburn)
  • T6 | Drew Williamson evened things up with a two-run home run. The senior brought in Andrew Pinckney, who got aboard with a one-out single prior to the homer. (2-2)
  • B6 | The Tigers regained the lead with an RBI-double. (3-2, Auburn)
Postgame Notes
  • The Crimson Tide recorded 11 strikeouts and has punched out 10-or-more batters in 25 games this season, including each of the last four contests and five of the last six games overall.
  • Caden Rose drew a pair of walks and has now reached base safely in his last 10 games dating back to April 25 against Georgia.
  • Rose'***** streak ended at five games. Over that stretch, the sophomore batted .450 (9-20) with three doubles, a home run, two RBI, four runs and two walks.
  • Andrew Pinckney finished with a career-high tying three hits in tonight's game. The redshirt sophomore has recorded three hits seven times in his career, including four times this year, and most recently at South Carolina on April 30.
Game two of the series between the Crimson Tide and Tigers is set for a 2 p.m. CT first pitch at Plainsman Park. Alabama will send senior right-hander Jacob McNairy to the mound while Auburn calls on junior Trace Bright, also a righty, for the start. Fans can catch Saturday's matchup on SEC Network+.
