Georgia Week- what are your thoughts?

This is certainly a big game, and much more of a test for CKD and the team than the first three games (obviously). But due to the expanded playoff, this feels more like a big game in the NFL, but a loss isn't a season-killer like it was with just 4 teams in the playoffs, or in the BCS era.

Maybe there's more pressure on UGA because of only having 1 win against Alabama since 2007, or that it's Smart's first game against Alabama since CNS retired. We'll see.

I obviously want us to win this game because it'll go a long ways in determining the SEC champ. The winner will have a clear leg up at the crown.

The bigger picture though is about "the narrative." I think a lot of people (myself included if I'm being totally honest) think the win last year in the SECCG was a little bit flukey and that Georgia is still the SEC top dog, no pun intended.

A Bama win kinds flips that scrip back toward the good guys. Any anything that stresses Georgia folks is good for us!

I was listening to Tom Brady last night when I was watching the Ravens vs. Cowboys.

He talked a lot about teams saying they need to "start fast." He says every team says that but there's a reason. When you start fast and get a lead he said you can play with your whole playbook, but when you get behind and the other team is dictating you have to call plays that allow you to score faster so it cuts the plays you call in half.

It was an interesting discussion, but applying it to Bama vs. Georgia I think it'll be very important that we can call plays that allow us to run and throw the ball. If we get behind and it becomes about JM having to pass to come from behind then we'll be very, very predictable and I'm afraid the Georgia defense will just bring the house and overwhelm him with pressure.

Iirc, in all but two of our many wins over georgia the past 15 years, we were playing from behind, many times deep into the second half

It should be a slugfest.

Georgia is weak in the interior defensive line. If Alabama can establish a run game there, their chances greatly improve.

Georgia's secondary is probably the best they have had in a decade. Milroe will need to be disciplined and throw the ball away if he does not like the way things look instead of forcing them.

Alabama matches up well with Georgia and has the home field advantage for a night game.

Coming into the season I thought UGA had a slight edge in this game.

This was mostly based on the idea that UGA was maybe a bit more stable by not seemingly going through as much change as we did in the off-season.

But now that we've seen both teams play a few games I feel like we have a solid edge.

I feel like we are more talented than they are and that we have better coaching top to bottom.

If both teams play their 'A' game I think we win by 7-10 points.

We should have the advantage on the OL and DL with UGA having several injuries, unless some of those guys are coming back?

They don't have a deep threat as far as I know, but Beck will be the best QB we've faced by far.

With the way DeBoer is scheming plays, I think we can win by more than 1 score.
Beck can go deep. But they like the long drives that eat clock.

Unfortunately, I just don't think that is our MO. We're a big-play offense. We literally have a chance of scoring on any play from anywhere on the field. But we're not an offense that grinds it out and scores on long, sustained drives that take time off the clock.

I believe this game will be decided by a few big plays. I think we score 3-4 times on explosive plays, but don't do a lot otherwise. I think UGA has 3-4 sustained drives, but will stall out a couple of times in the redzone.

Surprisingly, I think the big play that decides the game will come from our defense rather than our offense - a fumble recovery or interception to stop a drive late in the game to secure the victory.

RTR!

I posted an article several days ago that quoted CKD specifically saying that we would not install the majority of the offense he intends to run (this season) due to "personnel" aka "types of players". So the slants, quick screens, and short and intermediate passing game that we saw him do at UW will not be the offense we run this season, and my guess is, it is due to the passing strengths and weaknesses of Jalen Milroe. So unless we can run the ball a lot to get long sustaining drives, we probably won't see many clock-eating drives. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the butt. You live by the sword and you die by the sword.

That is where I am interested to see some differences in Saban vs Deboer. I have no doubt that Alabama hired a great coach in Deboer, but how will he do in this type of game if playing from behind?
we haven’t really played anyone with a pulse yet.

last year’s team had their issues, but they usually responded well when their backs were against the wall. lots of unknowns on both teams should make this one for the ages

I think he was likely talking about Milroe. But I also think he was probably talking about the OL. We have a lot of talent on the OL but they aren't the same type of guys he had at Washington which were smaller and better at moving in space.

maybe deboer is doing a little bit of rope-a-dope for our upcoming schedule 😎

I'm not one who thought last year's win was a fluke. We had a decent team last year, and the OL had started playing better in late season. I think both teams have improved. But I do believe Bama has improved more. The key to win is stop Beck any which way. Roll Tide!
we seem to have improved a good bit on both sides of the ball (at least so far)

i haven’t seen enough of georgia to know how they are wrt to last year

How was it trickery? Our line dominated theirs.

Normally I would stick with conventional wisdom and say we must run the ball enough for Georgia to respect it and get pressure on the QB. In this current bizarro world we call the norm I confess I don't have a clue what we should do except give it all we got to give. Roll Tide.
