This was shared on my Facebook timeline last week. Thought it might be useful to a bunch of y'all now that school is now @ home in so many places...
Note that I have not vetted any of these links. They generally look promising and useful, but if you find any that shouldn't be here, comment and tag me. AND feel free to add your own lists.

Help has arrived....
Ok, so LOTS of parents are suddenly home with their kiddos...
We have always home schooled after I was a classroom teacher for more than a decade, so I say WELCOME and let me help you.😉
A few things to remember, this is a PERFECT time to make memories with your children and learn things beyond "normal" math and reading.
This is a great time to really help your child dig in and spend hours doing or learning something that they love or are passionate about.
Don't forget that there are TONS of documentaries on the streaming services that they might enjoy and learn a lot from.
Here are links that I have gathered to TONS of free fun learning options for all ages from toddlers to AP students to adults. Some are always free and some are only free during this current situation👇

I am making this post public, so feel free to share it far and wide.😍 If you know of a resource for FREE education (either permanent or only during this time) please share it in the comments.

Unless new regulations force us to stay in our house...
Teach the kids how to cut grass.
Take em fishing.
Teach em how to use a tarp for a shelter.
Set up a couple of tarps on the banks of a river or lake, for an over niter...
Teach the kids how to cook over an open fire.

Not as educational as the subjects already covered, but sometimes I feel like kids don't get out and do things outside.
You can guess I lived along a riverbank for many years. Back in those days kids hunted, fished, camped, and boated. We never said there wasn't anything to do. That was a different world than a lot of people know these days.

My boys know how to do all of those things and much more. They were scouts, plus I am an outdoorsman, so they have always been "outside". But even the rural trails are overcrowded here right now. We can walk the streets in our town because you can move over to keep your distance, but trails are not wide enough to manage that where we are - so we can't walk or run the trail systems here.

We walk (and run), and we hang out outside in our yard, but most of the outdoors things that we have taken for granted are unavailable to us right now in NJ.

I've always not liked doing any of those things, to my own disappointment and detriment, no matter how much I've tried to force it. Never been patient enough to fish or hunt or camp, and I had to cut so much grass as as a kid that I lived in concrete jungles for 10 years and have had yard service for last 20, etc etc etc.

I always knew, though, that in a zombie apocalypse I would be in trouble. My interests lie in "learning", applied technology, web stuff, etc. ... and books. I have a whole list of things that I like and then a list of things I "like the idea of." Outdoors, camping, hunting, hiking, biking, fishing, etc are part of the latter.

Thus, my "like" list is things that generally require connections and electricity or copious down time. Not laziness, just not the other stuff. My brother on the other hand is pretty much the opposite of me - he loves to fish and build things and do outdoorsy stuff. I've always told him that we'll be coming to live with him if it ever got to that point and that I can build websites for him in the meantime :D Here's hoping we can keep the lights on and supply chains running. Stephen King's "The Stand" had me thinking hard about what my role would be in the aftermath.

My mom also has mentioned that during WWII and post-depression era that 'country folk' (as she very much was/is) didn't have to worry so much as the 'city folk' because country folks could hunt and fish and had pigs and chickens and cows. They may not have had much more but at least they could feed themselves most of the time.

Here is one for the kids and the adults.
A professor from Yale produced a show to teach people how to speak French called "French in Action.
There are something like fifty 30-minute episodes available on Youtube.
The series has a plot of sorts. It follows an American college student in Paris who meets a French young lady.
Rated G so fit for family, but here is the French young lady, Mireille:

Thanks @Tidewater ! Just passed this along to my 13yo. She's been taking French since she was 5 or 6 and has won the French school awards last few years so should be interesting to see her progress with this. Me? I speak 2 languages ... English and Southern.

You are most welcome. The actress who played Mireille (Valerie Allain) is very pretty, which was an additional benefit, but the format is great and the entire package entertaining. Each episode starts with a 30 second intro in English, and that is the last English spoken in the episode. The rest is just a demonstration of French spoken by French people.
When I have been using French daily for a while, I have had French people ask me what part of France I was from because I have a bit of an accent, but they cannot place it.
