By showing leadership, Bishop Wright has taken criticism away from the rectors of the churches in the smaller towns of the Diocese like us. I suspect that if he hadn't, a few might be pressuring our rector to start in person services; as it is, she's able to say that the Bishop has prohibited it. We work with the church in Warner Robins each week to produce a recorded service that goes on YouTube with 3 or 4 in the building at a time and with no two people close together. We've lost one person to COVID-19, we want to draw the line there.
Our pastor has a 30 minute service each Sunday. The UMC bishop has prohibited services until the June 1. Our pastor said this AM to expect it to be extended...

My daughter was up in Atlanta yesterday. She said that mask wearing is far more common there than down here in Houston Country south of Macon.
My friends who've been out more say that it's about 50% compliance. I plan to go to Costco early, elder time, in the morning. Huntsville must be doing something right, with 9 in the hospital and only 4 deaths so far. IDK if you saw my link to the story on AL.com...

our parish has been doing a great job of providing on-line services and daily prayers, compline, book readings for the kids, etc. and we've been doing it while we are in the middle of a rector search; the interim rector and rest of the staff have done great.

Our rector wants to do an online Eucharist for Trinity Sunday on June 7. The plan is to just have her and me in the church and only one of us behind the altar at any time. I've told her that if she were to fully reopen the church, I couldn't be there. My wife has asthma and I can't take that risk and I doubt God would want me to.

Christ is a proper name, I believe, and should be capitalized. But in this "anything goes" lowering standards society whatever I guess.
It isn't a "proper name" as if his last name is Christ. It's a TITLE that was abbreviated in the NT Greek manuscripts as one of the "sacred names" (nomina sacra). But titles - such as "Lord" (kurios or KC in uncial Greek) - would also be capitalized in English Bibles.

His last name was no more "Christ" than his first name was "Lord." We DO capitalize his middle name, er, Anglicized/corrupted/whatever Aramaic name.

Christ isn't a proper name but under modern standards, yes, it should be capitalized.

For those who might be concerned about how to properly spell the Lord's title:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 American Standard Version (ASV)
3 For everything there is a season, and a time for every [a]purpose under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

One of the more enjoyable assignments I did in grad school was text collation (part of a final exam in at least two classes). One of the differences I looked for was the nomina sacra in facsimiles of several ancient texts (6th c., 9th c., a few 11th c.). Later I served as a research assistant on a dissertation that collated the Lukan text from the western text family. The comparison was to the NA27 and UBS4 which have now both been updated (primarily in the General Epistles). Most of my fellow classmates hated text collation but I loved it. Sorry to nerd out but I couldn't resist.

ETA- I especially enjoyed reading the scribal notes in the margins when legible. One of them basically said, "I hate this job!" Hahaha.

Worse than that, it was in Aramaic and, with the proper vowels inserted, it's "Jeshua," really "Joshua" in Hebrew. "Christ" is from the Greek "Khristos," or "the annointed," IOW "messiah." It's really a title, not someone's name...
Not as wordy, but... :)

from birx, earlier today

i want a don't tread on my balls flag.
Saw that and knew she'd never played tennis. Like you end up with all your balls and only your balls on your side. I suppose you could knock them along the court surface and raise the net to let them under. Or, you could just wash your hands thoroughly afterwards...
