Gottfried = Tuberville

He's proven he can beat Stanford, Florida and Marquette w/worse teams. The fact that you consistantly post negative things like above while refusing to acknowledge the positive things he's done really leads me to question your objectivity on CMG.

Bingo. Some have a clear agenda...

could not believe the thread title cause I been saying this for a few days now

BECAUSE Tubby & CMG almost always have teams that underachieve - now I know Tubby straight up fair & sqaure went undefeated but usually his teams are much like CMG never reaching the hype

I just wanna get in the NCAA tourney

Do I think CMG is a great coach, no; good, yes. That's beside the point. The fact is that anybody who understands basketball knows that you have to look at the bigger view not game-to-game. Have we looked horrible at times this season? Heck yeah, but we're still inline for an SEC West title which would make it very hard for tourney selection committee to pass on us.

I said earlier - maybe after the Arkansas game - 8-8 should be enough to get us to the tourney. Its looked bad at times, but we still could get a ticket to the dance and a chance. Look at the NBA. The Mavs, Spurs, Pistons, and Suns were the class of the NBA in 2006, but a veteran and talented Heat team was learning on the run and dealing with injuries. The Heat still were able to "stumble" to a 2-seed in the East, got hot, and won the championship. They looked horrible at times: they were beaten by 35 in the regular season by the team they beat four times in a row in the Finals! Anything can happen. It may look unlikely, but I'd rather have a chance than no chance at all.

Stanford was over-rated that year. Marquette was not that much better than us if at all. You can have Florida.....:) However, as with all bad coaching, his talent won in spite of him.

What you need to know is I follow the basketball team as much if not more than the football team. I have watched Wimp, Hobbs, and Gottfried. Hobbs got to the second round twice, are you telling me he was a great coach?

Nope. Comparing Gottfried to Shula is ridiculous and shows me all I need to know about you.

The comparison is clear. The question by many.......not just me is this: Has Gottfried reached the ceiling? Can he take us to the next level? Criticism is ok.... Some are extremely hyper-sensitive. It doesn't matter what we say on this message board. It is not going to get him fired to question his coaching. His results will seal his fate, good or bad. This is the same reaction that was received with early criticism of with Shula. After '05 (10-2), as with the Elite 8 run, many were saying, "Shula is the man for the job!!" Guess what? He wasn't. We were right.:)

I think something being missed is that in Basketball as opposed to Football winning the West actually means something. The SEC Tournament seeds the teams based on their standing so winning the West gets a you a bye in the first round of the tournament. So degenerating it is ridiculous. Is it the ultimate goal? No, and I'm sure CMG would agree. It is easy to take quotes and slant them to fit a preconceived notion, but CMG has a proven record and suggestions that he needs to be replaced are flat out wrong in my opinion.
I think I understand your point, but winning the West in football means you actually get to go to Atlanta and play for the only real championship that teams should brag about, the actual league title. This Western or Eastern Division championship stuff is laughable to celebrate in any context other than qualifying for the real SEC title.

And you only post when things are not going well.

I enjoy that you continue to change your argument in a sad attempt to defend your point (i.e. Hobbs). Who mentioned Hobbs or even the 2nd round as a barometer for success?

Don't worry. I don't think you have the power to fire CMG. If you do, then that proves our AD is completely dysfunctional. Your inability or unwillingness to see both sides of CMG's tenure is ultimately clouding your judgement of his ability to lead this program. I don't expect you to ever acknowledge or agree with my points. You've proven repeatedly that you'll continue to argue regardless of the facts presented. Therefore, I'll go back to ignoring you and watching you pump every thread with anti-CMG posts. Have fun...

Except for the fluke Elite 8 run, he got as far as Gottfried, as many times.

Right back at ya....... with the Gottfried sunshine posts, of course.

I think both of you have made your point. CMG has had some great wins yet produced some head-scratching moments. My biggest complaint about his teams is that if you hit them in the mouth, they don't hit back. I wish they were tougher, more aggressive, and more consistant on the defensive end.

Comparisons to Tubberville are irrelevant in my opinion. Comparisons to Cliff Ellis might be more applicable.

But unlike Hobbs, he hasn't run the program into the absolute ground, in fact he built it up from the ground.

So if you can argue that Stanford was over rated, why can't I argue that Kent State was under rated? CMG is not going anywhere so I look forward to more of your negative posts and for the record I supported Shula's firing.
