Greg Byrne calls for Alabama fans to 'fight back'

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

This is not directed at "boosters", season ticket holders, Alumni( I am one) for whom they can click and send a direct a specific message to from their database. This is a public message "begging" for donations from the "common" fan ; a week before CHRISTMAS !
Poor timing and a BAD look for my University; IMHO.

I'm not donating a dime. The best thing to do is what Tennessee did and add a 20% "athlete fee" to every ticket and go that route. It's the "cleanest", most consistent way to do it. Do it to every sport on campus.
Ticket holders who have seen their ticket packages double over the past few years will really appreciate that.

Get rid of the NCAA and cut out the middleman for these TV contracts. Voila! There's your money. Oh, and BTW, why not make the players go out and actually do something to earn their own NIL like it was intended in the first place. I know the answer to that. Like most of these kids who have never had to do any work, when they are not playing ball, they'll lay around on the couch and play video games rather than go out and work for their money as long as somebody will give it to them.

Got the email and thought:

There are a dozen non-profit organizations that are doing real good for people (not just the perception of good), that I have given money to and would give more money to over giving to a public university charging thousands in tuition, subsidized by tax dollars, and paying kids to play a game.

Honestly, I'd feel a little guilty giving money to this...would feel like my priorities for what matters in life would be a little off somehow.

Then I hit, "Delete," on the email.

Me and my family donated money for years , and I was fine with that. But that was for infrastructure upgrades and the like. Developing the University. But this just doesn’t seem right.
Greg needs to be wooing Elon or Bezos to adopt the University, Trump loves to visit Saban field at Bryant Denny, seems like he would influence his billionaire buddies to keep the football program top notch.

Reminds me of retail stores where the cashier asks if you want to round up to help with this or that cause.

My standard reply is "Why don't you round down? As a consumer....don't I get a break once in a while?"
Or the Power Company asking me to “add a dollar” each month to help cover the bills of those “unfortunate”. My response? Why don’t you take a dollar (or two) from what you get paid each month by each of your customers and throw it into the till?

Bad look for him asking this a week before Christmas.

Besides that, he's lost his mind, go find some rich alumni that's willing to pay kids to play. You've got to be crazy to give money to these kids unless you've got so much of it you don't know what to do with it. Those kids don't deserve a cent from me.

The whole situation in college football is toxic and this is a desperate plea for money...to the general Bama fan public. This is insanity.

I can't even afford to go to games anymore....and you have the nerve to ask me for money.

Here, I've got a coin jar....I'll take a picture and post it for you to look at, because that's as close as you're getting to my money.

I've got a kid at South Alabama, I can't believe we were just asked for money by this joker.

Good luck, the whole of college football is unraveling....but lets just throw more money at it instead of trying to fix any of it. Idiots.

I understand the sentiment from the overwhelming majority.

At the same time this is the new landscape. It’s either get on board, or get left behind, right?

I love the U of A. There has to be a plan to keep up.

This is akin to the rich asking the poor for a handout. The plan can't look like this. The schools need to look for more legitimate ways for these kids to earn NIL, not ask the fans to crowd fund their wealth building project.

I have a problem with asking fans, but My biggest problem is the manner in which it was asked. It looks a little pathetic. And I mostly have a favorable opinion of Greg Byrne
