I think that was a clever move to prevent the 1956 Georgia flag from being on the ballot because that flag might well have won.
What ended up on the ballot was the 2001-2003 flag and this one. Obviously, this one won over the 2001-2003 flag.

I like Tennessee’s flag too. Probably in my top 10. Alabama’s is too basic and too overdone across the world for me. So I’m forced to enjoy other state’s flags more than mine.

What I like about the Tennessee flag is that there are very much three regions of that state. Mountains in the east. Rolling hills in the middle, and flatter farmland in the area between the Tennessee and the Mississippi. Each "feels" different.
The flag reflects that.

I also like that Ohio's is the only swallowtail flag in the US.
