Guscette Named Semifinalist for Buster Posey Award

– Alabama baseball's Mac Guscette was selected as a semifinalist for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, the Wichita Sports Commission announced Wednesday morning.

Guscette is one 16 semifinalists for the Posey, which has been presented each year since 2000 to the nation's top catcher at the Division I level. Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, finalists for this year's catcher of the year honors will be announced on June 6. Those three catchers will be invited to Wichita, Kan., with the winner being announced on June 26 during the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet.

  • One of the top defensive catchers who has also produced in a big way with the bat this season
  • Leads the Southeastern Conference with 16 runners caught stealing, including a league-high 12 during conference play
  • Ranks second on Alabama with a .333 (50-150) average that includes seven doubles and four home runs
  • Also contributed 39 RBI and 34 runs scored to go with 10 walks and a team-high19 hit-by-pitch
  • Led the Tide with 25 RBI during SEC play while also ranking second in on-base percentage (.439)
