Hamas attacks Israel - Part 2

Joe Biden oped in WaPo on Gaza

To start, Gaza must never again be used as a platform for terrorism. There must be no forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no reoccupation, no siege or blockade, and no reduction in territory. And after this war is over, the voices of Palestinian people and their aspirations must be at the center of post-crisis governance in Gaza.

As we strive for peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution. I have been emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must be held accountable. The United States is prepared to take our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians in the West Bank.

Hostage Deal Reached
The Israeli government approved a deal with Hamas overnight to temporarily halt fighting for at least four days in exchange for the release of roughly 50 Israeli women and children who have been held hostage in Gaza by the militant group. In return, Israel will release roughly 150 Palestinian women and children held in its prisons and will allow around 300 aid trucks per day to enter into Gaza from Egypt. The pause in fighting will be extended by an extra day for every 10 additional hostages released.

The families of the hostages have 24 hours as of this writing to appeal to Israel's Supreme Court before the agreement can take effect. If the deal transpires, it will mark the first mass hostage release since Hamas captured more than 240 people during a surprise cross-border attack Oct. 7. Four hostages, including two Americans, were previously freed in pairs; one hostage was rescued; and two were reportedly found dead (see timeline).

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated yesterday Israel doesn't intend to stop fighting until Hamas is dismantled and all hostages are freed. The death toll has risen to more than 11,000 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry and stands near 1,400 people in Israel, according to Israeli officials. See updates on the war here.

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters swarmed the streets surrounding Rockefeller Center on Wednesday, clashing with NYPD cops and chanting “River to the sea,” long seen as an antisemitic slogan, in an effort to support Gaza by derailing the annual tree lighting.

Waving Palestinian flags and signs calling for the “end to genocide,” the ralliers gathered along Sixth Avenue alongside hordes of tourists waiting in line to see the iconic ceremony.

Unable to get to the NYC Christmas tree, the enormous crowd instead swarmed around the tree outside the News Corp building, which houses The Post and Fox News, and which has already been targeted by pro-Palestinian protesters on at least two occasions.

“Free, free Palestine!” the protesters chanted.

One rallier was seen climbing on top of the pillar bearing the building’s address, and another was seen carrying a massive sign bearing a swastika, comparing the Israel Defense Forces to Nazis.

What is the point of this? Does it never occur to these types of people that they are actually harming their cause by acting like sociopaths?

Israeli officials obtained a document describing Hamas’ battle plan for its October 7 terror attack more than a year before the militant group carried out the assault, the New York Times reported Thursday, citing documents, emails and interviews.

The roughly 40-page document did not give a date for the attack, but outlined “point by point” the kind of deadly incursion that Hamas carried out in Israeli territory in October, according to the Times, which reviewed the translated document.

Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan, assessing that it would be too difficult for Hamas to carry out, according to the Times.

The document, which the Israeli authorities code-named “Jericho Wall,” detailed an assault that would overwhelm fortifications around the Gaza Strip, take over Israeli cities and target key military bases. It was followed with precision by Hamas on October 7, the Times said.

I appreciated at the end of the article he acknowledged the deaths of the people on Oct. 7th and that Israel says it must destroy Hamas because of this. The thing I have gone back to over and over when wrestling with all this is what would the US or any other country do if they were attacked like this? Would we be willing to leave the people responsible in charge of a country or region adjacent to our border? How do you eliminate Hamas when they are embedded with the civilian population? This whole thing is a nightmare with no good solution. There is no long term peace partner for Israel, other countries, and international organizations to try to work out a long term plan like a two state solution.

Cornell University students raging against Israel have 'convicted' their college president of genocide during a mock trial they held over the weekend. The Cornell Coalition for Mutual Liberation occupied a campus building on Friday, chanting anti-Israel slogans before holding a 'mock trial' of University President Martha Pollack, for 'complicity in genocide,' as the university has ties to Israel.

Just weeks ago, a student was arrested by the FBI after he threatened to shoot up a kosher dining hall and called to kill all Jewish people at Cornell University. The terrifying ordeal has not halted anti-Israel sentiments on campus, however. The protesters were joined by many other students for the 'die-in' - as well as the university's Students for Justice in Palestine chapter.

Remember when these nimrods were running around calling anyone who disagreed with them "literally Hitler?" Pepperidge Farm remembers.....

We literally toppled two entire countries and killed (est) hundreds of thousands of people over 9/11.

I'm not saying everything we did in response was right, just answering your question.

Like it or don't there's only one way to eliminate this kind of evil, and sadly it usually means a lot of innocent people dying.

I posted the article for the newsworthiness rather than an endorsement of my opinion.

I agree, the US would probably respond the way Israel has. No one wants innocent loss of life, but the Israelis have a right to live without fear of being attacked at any moment by a group that want to destroy their entire nation.

The Palestinians need to realize the hopelessness of their situation and start helping round up Hamas. Of course, that will never happen.

I got where you were coming from. It was an interesting read. I'll read articles from them every once in a while.

You're 100% correct we went half way around the world to do that. How bad would it be if it was a next door neighbor with a common border.
