Hoover High School Making News

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

It certainly looks like this situation has nothing to do with Alabama recruiting violations. This is a Hoover HS situation. It may involve an Alabama signee and maybe losing the academic eligibilty of that signee.

Hoover school board approves hiring Pointer, three partners

This is no way a knock on you, but an honest question to Bama fans. Are you really surprised? This is a true story, drenched in Auburn Message Board "Insiders", meant for 2 main reasons:
A) Divert attention from Mobile.
B)Hope one of the players is a Bama player, which as you can tell they have no idea which, even though they are "Insiders".

Grown men fighting for respect for having inside sources of a school they don't teach at, where they didn't graduate from, but they know where it's located and Hoover has been so mean to the Tigers :(. Pathetic that such a reach has made so much noise between AU and Bama.

To me, it's an obvious sign of desperation meant to somehow go national and put pressure on Saban before the season starts.

We'd better get used to hearing this crap too. We have a coach people hate, and they will be twisting and spinning everything they can to disparage his name.

I'm done now :)

I find it very interesting and quite telling that Hoover high school is hiring a highly respected former Federal Judge's company to investigate any potential wrong doing regarding student's grade being modified while both AU and Mobile city schools are using the old "in house" investigation method.

Hmmm.. you don't suppose...?? Nah, I'm sure the Mobile school's are just following the Aub's example of self-investigation and saving tax payers money to boot. Why waste money on some fancy big city independent law firm when you can do it yourself?? :rolleye2:

I am a teacher/coach and I can tell you that grade changing happens everywhere and every year. If anyone tells you that it does NOT, they are misinformed, naive or just out right lying.

It is NOT always, or even usually, for athletes. It happens for an abundance of reasons; some are good reasons, some are bad and some are neither.

It ain't news worthy if it does NOT happen at Hoover or if some big name recruit is not involved.

Teachers help kids out for many reasons. The smart teacher does it before grades are posted and nothing is ever said. For example; there is a hard working young person that needs and 'A' to get a scholarship (not athletic); the teacher might help the kid out with a point or two on an assignment or two.

This is another case of athletes being held to different and higher standards. We should all remember that half of the doctors and lawyers in this country graduated at the bottom of their med/law school.

Again, let me state; the vast majority of grade changing that goes on is for non-athletic reasons.

Hoover City Schools is just a lightening rod for this issue. It's a shame that they have to spend their money on this crap because the world is watching.

This story has really dampened my excitement I had thinking that we might have a chance to rebound, and become relevant again. I'm just afraid that this story may have legs, and Lord knows we don't need another NCAA investigation. I'm afraid that would lead to the last nail being hammered into our coffin. Please, someone tell me I'm freaking over nothing, and say that there really is nothing to this.

You.....are......freaking.....out.....over......nothing. I repeat, NOTHING.

This is a Hoover thing, no matter how bad someone (especially the media) wants to make this about Bama.

Worst case scenario: a kid we signed (or anyone else for that matter) from Hoover may have to go back through the Clearinghouse.

I've heard some crazy allegations that Saban and Steele has been applying pressure to get grades changed, and in a few weeks something that will be very damaging to the university will come out. This is probably just wishful thinking on the part of our rivals, and the media (Finebaum in particular). I guess after all that we've been through I'm paranoid, and Saban should be too. We're under a microscope right now.

yes, that's what Finebaum and the media want you to think. It boosts there ratings, it sells newspapers, Finebaum's phone lines are jammed.

And, every Boog is going to tell you that to divert attention away from Mobile. Nothing will come of either situation.

You are freaking out over nothing. There are people who are going to push this story to discredit Saban. Grown Boogs just want to seem like they are important on a message board, due to the fact they live near Hoover.

There has been no connection between the Hoover scandal and Alabama. A play we have may be a part of it, but there is no proof that Alabama was behind the grade changing.

The timing is no mistake either, just sit back and relax. Avoid the Bunker and Aubs.

I don't think Bama will be directly drawn into this. The Murphy connection is the only thing remotely troublesome.

I am interested to learn if Rush Propst (and his inflated ego) will be found to have instigated grade changes through strong-armed coercion.

I like the sound of that. I just hope this is all a bad dream and they wake up from it and lern from their mistakes.

Thats what I don't understand. What does Propst have to gain by bullying people to change grades?

RTO, is this about Hoover changing(?) grades so a player can stay eligible to play ball for Hoover or get into college???

Ok, so what I've heard is that one senior (a unnamed football player) had his grade changed from an 89 to a 90 after the teacher had submitted the grade. The individual teacher was not the individual who changed the grade. Said teacher noticed the grade change and issued a complaint. There's also been some accusations of another teacher concerned over losing her job relating to another football players grades, but there doesn't seem to be much information regarding that.

Propst wants Hoover to be a major pipeline to the NCAA so that he can get top players to move to Hoover and improve the overall quality of his teams. He has had several good players come to Hoover because of the possibility of getting noticed by Division I schools and more will follow if the exposure and success continues.

That doesn't mean that he is or has pressured anyone to change grades, but it is a possible motive for such.

As a teacher, I know how this would work. The teacher would submit the grades on the computer. Then, he/she would print a grade verification sheet, check it, sign it and date it, and turn it in. After that, if a grade was changed, it would've been someone with overall access such as a counselor or administrator.

It all depends on who actually changed the grade, why said person changed the grade, and who may or may not have pressured for the grade to be changed. The barners are pushing a rumor that certain Bama coaches may have been involved in pressuring (individuals other than the teacher) for the grades to be changed. I find that to be about as likely as Auburn being involved in changing grades for those Mobile athletes. Which is to say not very likely at all. It's highly improbable that a college coach would secretly conspire behind the teacher's back to bump an athlete's grade up.

Have to agree with FreeBro. My son needed a higher grade in chemistry and the chemistry teacher gave him a couple of extra assignments which upped him a grade. It had nothing to do with athletics -- just a teacher helping a student advance himself.

Oh, that certainly goes on, but that's really not the issue here. What's at stake here is that a student's grade was supposedly changed without the teacher's permission by some unidentified third party.
