Hurricane Irma......

Unfortunately no. We will be okay. Luckily it isn't too hot or cold outside. I stocked up on things that could be cooked on a gas range so we can rough it for a couple of days if need be.

Too bad you don't live closer. Apparently I have a "magic" generator. Everyone I've loaned it to, their power comes on within a day.

Between the weakening and the slight change in course, we're just getting a glancing blow in north Alabama. Now, rain only up to .5" and 45 mph gusts. It's uncommonly chilly - 61 in the valley and 55 up here. That's having an effect also, I think...
We're projected to get 1-2" of rain in Birmingham. Winds are expected to average around 25mph with occasional higher gusts. Things are pretty calm here at the moment.

looks like we are on the backside of that really intense band, but it's still pretty nasty. the wind has died down a little bit and the rain is getting heavier.

Don't look now, but apparently Florida is playing a little "Jay and the Americans" --

"And as I run away, I could hear her say to Jose...ay....ay..........Come a little bit closer, you're my kind of man....so big and so strong"

Not often you see a Hurricane forecast to show a 'Loop-de-Loop'

I think we're at 8mph, gusts to 15. It's chilly, 54F here on the mountain and 59 in the valley...

Good grief! They've closed Redstone and NASA tomorrow. Of course, with the schools closed, it causes a logistic nightmare for parents, if they don't...

And yet they closed the schools for two days because of it.

Yeah, today was kind of pointless to close. I understand where they are coming from though. They don't want another fiasco like the snow event years ago. As soon as the Governor declares a state of emergency, it is an easy choice to close. They don't have to make up those days.

I remember my school being closed some days back in the day. But, no matter what we always made them up.

We are open for business...no changes. Then again, we're not a public sector organization.

A friend on FB who lives in CA asked how we were preparing for the storm. I responded, "I'm at work."

Yeah, they were thinking the wind was going to be a bigger problem. Not safe for buses and such. It has really only rained lightly here today. The wind is picking up a little bit now in south Shelby County.
