Hurricane Irma......

Seeing Miami brings back a story. My father left home after graduating high school when he was 16 and moved to Miami for a short time before enlisting. He worked in a diner and lived above it. He says he served food in the diner while wading through water during a hurricane (1948 maybe).

Any ideas on what is happening with Hurricane Jose? I had the idea a few days ago that it was going to head north-northeast and go away but now nhc shows it possibly circling back and could end up tracking west.

You're not out of beer I hope.

Ha ha.....believe it or not....I'm kind of a tea-totaler.....and this isn't enough of a special occasion to warrant any deviation. Drinking Cranberry-Mango juice right now.

I do have beer on hand though...for emergencies. :)

7pm and the worst should be behind us in another 12 hours. Hopefully I will be sleeping most of those hours...lol.

Wouldn't surprise me if we lose cable and maybe even power when the highest winds get here later on.

Best wishes to all in her path.....stay safe.....

Looting has already started in Miami.

James Spann just posted a pic of Battleship Park showing the water has lowered there at the USS Alabama

we had several families with kids in church today getting away from the storm.
Monte Sano State Park is full. I understand the state has thrown open all the parks, with cabin and hotel facilities free of charge. I'd hate to ride it out up here in a tent. Gusts are supposed to hit 60 mph in the valley, so they could still be 70-75 up here - not camping weather...

Simply a perception on my part, but it seems that Irma has dropped down the category rankings more rapidly than what projections were showing even less than 12 hours ago.

Dan's power just went out over in town...

Just found out my BIL in Sanford went through the whole (hole?) colonoscopy prep last week only to have the procedure canceled at the last minute due to Irma. I really feel evil for my slight giggle when I found out...

I wouldn't wish two preps on my worst enemy... :D

Irma has weakened to be the best case scenario for Florida. The storm surge is significantly less than predicted.

Not to down play or minimize any damage or destruction felt by any particular party, but this storm hasn't been nearly as bad as it could have been.
The lack of surge and flooding has really helped minimize the damage total. Wind damage will certainly be a factor - about a billion downed trees but nothing like Harvey from what I'm hearing from our contacts in the field at this point. I'm sure there are still those who have lost everything but I'd still consider it a bullet dodged for most folks.

I'm talking about the continental U.S.

Additionally, I qualified at the beginning that I wasn't downplaying other significant damage, so why you gotta pick nits?

Cause part of the US got decimated and people are playing it off like it wasn't all that bad.
