I still think we got the right guy (Coach DeBoer)

I went back and watched CKD post game presser and I could tell he was not happy and internally fuming. However, he isn't going to externalize or in his words "lose our cool" in public. But it doesn't mean his drive to win and his disdain for losing is any less. I watched his Monday press conference and got the same feel. He's not Coach Saban, he's not going to erupt behind the podium or berate a reporter. He chooses not to vent his frustration or anger that way.

But now that the honeymoon outfit has been torn off, I think the transition to this being his team will be expedited. You can tell he knows the pressure is on and I think the things he brings as a HC that's generated the staggering coaching record will be fully hands on deck.

Saban had his turn the corner moment/season in 07, and I think this Vandy game is DeBoers. He has more talent than Saban so he can realistically correct things faster. I still say we got the right coach and we're going to see why going forward.

Hang in there boys and girls, the ride of greatness will soon be here again. We're just taking her into the shop for a new paint job, tires and tune up. RTR

But something is not right with our defense and the attitude of our players.
Our defense hasn't been right since Pruitt left. Golding got away with a horrible job because we had the best offenses in school history and a head coach that was tired of turnover and unwilling to can him.

The attitude of the players....that I am concerned about. I'm all for the program loosening up a bit, but I think the freedom is going to some of their heads.

I don’t have any doubts about his Offense and he clearly got the light switch to flip for Jalen at QB.

But something is not right with our defense and the attitude of our players.

But I also think it’s too early to blame him completely.

I’m reserving any kind of judgment until after we see a few more games.

This I completely agree with. I hate it that we can't appreciate what Milroe has done in the past 2 games because of the overshadowing of the defensive woes, but he is making all the throws and it is a wonderful thing of beauty. Now, can this defense start working....

There's a fine line between celebrating and taunting, between trash-talking and thuggery, between aggressive play and unnecessary roughness.

I can only imagine how hard it is for the coaches to keep these guys in line and under control. You want them to be fired up and playing with emotion, but not the kind of behavior we saw at the end of the Vandy game.

I don’t think anyone here seriously thinks CKD isn’t the right man for the job. If they do, then IMO they’re judging way too quickly.
I still have PTSD from the coaching rollercoaster of DuBose/Franchione/Price/Shula.
The feeling of helplessness as my alma mater could not get things together.
I am lightyears away from being ready to get back on that rollercoaster.

Up until this past week, the transition has been about as perfect as it could be. And it was never going to be a perfect transition. There was always going to be growing pains in some area, and i would prefer for this to happen, than for recruiting to drop off, or something like that.

Reminder: Kirby Smart lost to a South Carolina team in 2019 that went 4-8, and this Vandy team is better than that team. This Vandy team is likely going to be a bowl team. Cubelic has said it time and time again this week that we need to recondition ourselves and our expectations about Vandy, because this is not your grandaddy's Vandy. They had a 23 year old QB who's been around for awhile, and been a starter for awhile. We've seen the past several years what an "old" QB can do. They also have quite a few players from NMSU who played together last year, and they've been running that offensive scheme for awhile together, and I think that had more of an effect than some want to admit. Most of the reasonable pundits I've heard this week, think that we're going to see this type of crazy upset to start to happen way more often, with the portal, NIL, and the expanded playoff.

We gotta remember that this is still year one for DeBoer and the staff, and we have an extremely young team, so there was bound to be a slipup somewhere. We still beat Georgia. And don't forget, DeBoer is 81-3 after coaching 10 games at a school. This was only game 5, so let's not give up on him yet. He's just getting started.

CKD will tell us a lot how he manages the issues with the defense. Do we need a change? Does this guy need check ins scheduled with CNS. Is the DC not experienced enough and over his head? I think what we saw the last six quarters was most people’s fear in the preseason. I didn’t expect us to strangle people anymore with defense but it is inexcusable to not be able to come up with only a few stops in the last dozen or more drives!

Great post, BB, and I agree completely. Transitions are hard and that's regardless of how much talent you have stockpiled up from the previous regime. A talented player can still be thoroughly unfit for a particular schematic or style.

As soon as you believe a weaker football program cannot beat your football team because of your team's superiority, is exactly when that program will have the chance to do just that. We lost nearly all of our back end of the defense, and that's not something you just paper over with a new coaching staff. I'm sure the defense is still being installed in some ways. We'll see the rest of the year if Coach Wommack can fix the issues/scheme away the weaknesses in our defensive personnel/approach. This is only the 4th loss in 4 years from a CKD coached team and overall his 13th loss vs. 108 wins as a head coach. I don't think he's going to rest easily after this loss.

I have no real questions about CKD. I have serious concerns with Coach Wommack. Here's why:

1. Vandy lost to Georgia State. That's right, Ga St. How hard is it to watch they're tape and see what they did successfully.
2. I have not seen any real adjustments from the defense in the last 6 quarters. Can't keep talking about the transition and see Zero success from adjustments.
3. If my 22 are better than your 22, then the only reason I lose is because of coaching. We can debate this but it is really simple. The WAY Georgia and Vandy ran right through us makes me wonder what it takes to make an adjustment.

Let me say I am a fan and don't coach big time football. what our coaches have forgot about football is way more than I know. Just my opinion. Been rooting for the Tide since October 1968

When CKD got here in January players were transferring he had to get a coaching staff in place I am not sure CKW was his choice for DC. no doubt CKD is the right man for the job.
