News Article: In a trying year for sports, Robert from Waterloo is a shining light

Robert is what sports and sports call in shows should be about. I always enjoy listening to him call in. He finds the good in everyone, no matter what faults that individual may have.

He should be the caller of the year. The day he called in on the day after Shane had passed away, I couldn't hold back tears listening to the man express his sympathy through the poem he had written. Straight up class act individual.

Re: Finebaum Show, Shane for Centerpoint and Robert from Waterloo

This article is about a caller not the show.

I miss Shane, a lot. Anyone who will bare their Bama soul to the world everyday(even if sounding foolish sometimes) and is also the first in line bringing the Brando's and Danielson's of the world around to our way of seeing things while holding them accountable for a recent backstabbing that they probably thought we missed, is o.k in my book. He wasn't intimidated by these media celebrities. He made the best of his 110 to 120 IQ and represented the thoughts of thousands of fans. His occasional blunders were excusable if not worthy from just being comical. He had a long battle making up for these blunders with sound commentary. It took several years before he was taken seriously due to his sometimes overboard nature, but in the end, especially the past three years, he turned out to be the shows #1 and most anticipated caller. Gone were the days of being hung up on to having his own two to three caller allotted segment. Every big time media member that does Paul's show was so familiar with Shane that they would mention him out of the blue. His once reputation of just a clown evolved into a very informed/frontline fan that sprinkled his call with humor, but rapidly filled the air with substance.

Shane is irreplaceable as a caller. Most callers are stereotypes that come and go every three years. Shane was one of a kind.

This was the year I was going to work with Shane and build him a new ad sponsored website/Blog for his columns.

Waiting for the Shane call that doesn't come has taken some getting used to.

RIP Shane

Re: Finebaum Show, Shane for Centerpoint and Robert from Waterloo

Great post, any time of year, but especially now. Stories like this are the "gems" mined from sports for those of us who love them. It makes us realize the larger than life lessons learned from...Sports, well played. Thanks Paul for sharing!
