"Why does Rick Moodey still have a job?"

Probably for the same reasons Gottfried still has a job.

NO one else will take him of our hands.

Pork Chop, Pork Chop, Pork Chop...

I know you are a Bama fan through and through, and I know right now you are stressed out and frustrated....

Mark can't make Winston Dunk, and you know as well as I that if Dudley had had even a below average game, we win...

But without Kenny or Dudley contributing and that very "unattractive" Lloreda dude, we were going to have a hard time...

Give Mark a chance here....let's get these team on Neutral courts where the REFS don't struggle with making the right calls...

Our Record on Neutral Courts the past 3 years is something like 16-3.....keep the faith Brother!!

How dare I suggest that Mark is not the greatest coach NCAA history.

I repent now, please forgive me.

I was way out of line there by even suggesting that Mark could be outcoached or his team could be outplayed.

I'm a homer again, don't fear.

We're gonna win it all! Yeah baby!!!! Roll Tide!!!!!

No but to think that we could actually get a better coach than Gottfried is absurd..this is Alabama basketball..not Duke.

The problem right now is we are playing much better.......but we have that bugaboo about winning on the road again.......

But we kept it close at State, and today, and I think we can make a spark in the Tournament.....I'd prefer not to play UK in the second round......but we'd have to play them eventually.......keep the faith fellas!!

For now, I'll look past the spelling errors. The only thing your original post did was idiotically suggest that Gottfried's job was comparable to Moody's. Because of the pure stupidity of that comparison, I doubt that you know much about basketball or this program. Moody has, for the last few years, fielded a horrendous basketball team. Gottfried has developed the Men's Basketball team from the toilet that he received it to new heights. Yes, this year's record is not what anyone would have hoped for, but this program is far from where it was 5 years ago. In fact, Gottfried has done such a great job restoring this program that people who know nothing about basketball and care little for Bama basketball begin to hop on the bandwagon. Those people, like you, porkchop, then call for his job or bash the program when the wagon hits some rough roads.

To those people, I'm sure there's a rock somewhere waiting to be crawled under.

Hey TideRoller.

Get a grip dude.

First off I am no bandwaggoner. I know a little about basketball as well. Probably as much as you do anyway.

I am just not happy with the direction the basketball team is going right now. Yeah Mark can recruite players no doubt. It's everything else that scares me.

It bothers me that Bama fans have resigned themselves to thinking this is the most that they can expect from their program.

I think CMG is a good coach and could end up being a great coach. In yesterdays game why did he call a time out with 38 seconds to go? Seems to me the timeout should have been called the next possession after Mo missed that 3 point shot. It might not have changed the final outcome but I think he should have calmed the guys down and worked the clock better.

porkchop,
I'm sure you know a little about basketball. Most 4 year olds know a little about basketball. Clearly, you've shown that you know little about this program. And nice job of putting yourself out on a ledge by suggesting that you know as much as me. Well buddy, I attended exactly 20 Bama games this year. I bet that's the same amount as you have attended.

Also, I stated in my post that I, and most other Bama fans, am not thrilled with this season. However, a 17-10 record is by no means grounds for removing CMG. With one more win, CMG will have 100 wins at Bama. Porkchop, divide 100 by 5(the # of seasons CMG has been at Bama) and you get 20. CMG, at age 39, is averaging 20 wins a season at Bama.

Do I expect more from this program? Yes.
I expect some Sweet 16s and maybe even further in the NCAA tourney over the next few years. Porkchop, did you know that Bama has NEVER advanced past the Sweet 16? Well, now you do. Also, I think CMG is the man to get this program to those unchartered waters. Clearly, porkchop, you disagree. Of course, you haven't used any logic or made any points to explain your argument. So, I'll just wait and wade through the garbage that an uninformed poster spews on this board.

Porkchop, since you are so knowledgeable about Bama basketball, who should we hire to replace CMG?

Roller, 20 wins a year is good. I am not saying that it is not.

If that is what you're going to base success or failure off of then that is fine. I personally can't fathom 20 wins a year being a success given the players Mark has recruited and the expectations that have mounted since he's been here.

Yeah 20 wins is great but there are a lot of negitive things to go along with the positives.

Maybe someone should address why we can't win on the road. Against anyone.
Why can't we shoot the ball?
Why can't one of the best post players in the country seem to get any touches? He does seem to get more at the end of the game but it's like the team is falling back on him to save the day. By that time we're usually down by a bunch of points.
Why does the team look like it's having a baby every trip down court? Everything the team does looks labored. It looks hard. Nothing comes easy and this is the same offense that Bama has run since Mark's been here so it is not new.

With the opening win against OU the team looked like a million bucks. They have not improved and in some cases regressed from that game.

You would expect Mark and the team to eventually build on their successes and "turn the corner" and it has yet to happen.

Those are some of the reasons I don't consider the program moving forward. Am I willing to cut Coach Mark slack? Of course I am. I want to succeed as much as anyone, but this seems to go on every year. Every time someone brings it up, someone starts talking about band-waggoners and spelling errors. Every time it's mentioned people act like they want to bury their heads and pretend it's rosy when it's not.

I don't apreciate your condiscending attitude. I know full well that the Tide has never been past the Sweet 16. If you disagree with me that is cool but you don't have to be a jerk.

FWIW I think there is a chance that Mark could take us into those uncharted waters as well, but he might want to just make the tourney first. The NCAA tourney not the NIT.

porkchop,
The reason I "jumped" on you is because you compared CMG to Moody. You should know that this is an absurd comparison. I think you used it to get people riled up. Also, you suggested that the only reason CMG is here is because he has no where else to go. That was the entirety of your original post. Only after some rebuttals did you finally make a point worth any substance. If you had listed your problems with the team's direction instead of calling for the firing of the head coach, I think your post would have been better received.

As for the condescending attitude, I think that's the pot calling the kettle black. Just look at your second post. It looks condescending and sarcastic to me.

As for the actual play of our basketball team...

Our road record IS bad. Most teams lose more on the road than they win, especially this year. Our team loses more than most. I have no answer for this. I'm sure everyone associated with this problem wishes they had an answer.
Our shooting has dramatically improved since the Florida game. Our worst performance in that timespan was at Baton Rouge(38%). A good day of shooting is generally 40%. Bama shot 40% or better in every game other than LSU. Bama even shot over 50% four times in that timespan. I think we are playing our best basketball right now, and shooting is the reason for this.
As for Erwin, he'll be the first to admit that often he doesn't play aggressively enough to get open. However, this team must look for Erwin when he is open. Yesterday was the worst offensive performance I have ever seen from Erwin. He looked completely dominated. Lloreda's dominance of ED was the ultimate difference in the game's outcome.

I apologize for the longevity of this post, but I thought I would address most of what you brought up. I would rather talk about the actual play of this team, then have to defend the coach that has turned this program around. We're in good hands. Gottfried is NO Rick Moody...most know that.

Porkchop, I hope future posts center around specific play of this team and not name-calling. I'm a bit of a basketball junkie, and I would be more than happy to talk about the play of our team.
