Probable Starting Pitching Matchup
TUESDAY: UABen Hess (Fr., RHP) vs. SAM – Will Lynch (Fr., RHP)

Leading Off
• Alabama and Samford will meet for the 111th time in series history and second time this season when the two in-state programs square off on Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Crimson Tide holds a 95-15 overall record against the Bulldogs, including a 19-6 mark in Birmingham.
• The two teams met earlier this season on April 5 in Tuscaloosa with the Tide claiming a 10-1 win over the Bulldogs. Alabama used 12 hits and seven walks to post 10 runs for the midweek victory.
• Alabama will call on Ben Hess for the Tuesday start. The freshman will be making his eighth start of the year and second against Samford. Hess' previous outing against the Bulldogs saw the right-hander toss 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts.
• Samford will look to freshman Will Lynch. The right-hander will be making his eighth appearance of the year and fifth start overall.

About Alabama
• Alabama finished last week at 1-3, suffering three losses by a combined six runs to start followed by a 3-0 shutout win over 10th-ranked Georgia on Sunday.
• The Crimson Tide suffered a 7-6 loss to UAB on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.
• Alabama was first on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third. UAB would answer with a grand slam in the top of the fourth to take their first lead. The Tide posted single tallies in the fourth and fifth to pull back in front, before a two-run sixth gave the Blazers the advantage once again. Alabama pulled even with one run in the seventh, but another UAB run in the eighth put the Blazers in front for good.
• The Tide chipped away at an early four-run deficit but was unable to complete the comeback on Friday, falling 4-2 to 10th-ranked Georgia.
• UGA put up a four-spot in the first, highlighted by a three-run home run. The two teams then went scoreless until the seventh when Dominic Tamez led off the inning with a solo home run. William Hamiter followed suit in the next inning, starting the eighth with a solo homer of his own to make it a two-run ballgame.
• After Hamiter's homer, the Tide was able to reach a pair with two down before a flyout to deep center ended the rally. The ninth saw UA bring the tying run to the plate with one out, but a 3-6 double play ended things in Georgia's favor, 4-2.
Garrett McMillan was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Following a four-run first, McMillan settled in to allow just two hits over the next 5.0 IP and retired the final eight batters he faced.
• The Tide suffered a 3-0 loss to UGA on Saturday.
• Both offenses were held at bay for a majority of the afternoon with Georgia plating three in the third for the game's only runs. Alabama had the bases loaded with two down in the seventh but a flyout to the warning track in right ended the rally and kept the Tide off the board.
Jacob McNairy suffered the loss despite a quality start for the Crimson Tide. The senior allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. He gave up three hits and issued one walk leading to three runs in the third, but limited UGA to four hits and no runs the rest of his time on the mound.
• Alabama blanked Georgia on Sunday for the 3-0 shutout win.
• Sunday's matchup was yet another pitcher's duel, this time favoring the Crimson Tide. Alabama's pitching staff allowed a season-low tying three hits on the way to the shutout victory.
• The Tide offense was able to do enough, plating one in the fourth on a solo homer from Drew Williamson. Andrew Pinckney followed with a two-run shot in the fifth to add to the Tide advantage on the way to the 3-0 win.
Grayson Hitt delivered when the Tide needed it, picking up the win on Sunday. The sophomore recorded 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just three hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts.
Brock Guffey and Dylan Ray followed for a combined 3.0 frames, with Ray collecting his fifth save of the season thanks to 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings with two strikeouts.

About Samford
• Tony David is in his first year as a collegiate head coach. David joined the Samford baseball staff in 2005 and had served as associate head coach of the Bulldogs since 2006. A 1995 graduate of South Alabama, David's staff includes associate head coach Tyler Shrout, assistant coach Brad Moss and volunteer assistant T.J. Dixon.
• Samford finished the 2021 campaign at 35-24 overall, including a 20-10 conference record. The Bulldogs earned a spot in the NCAA Starkville Regional, where they fell to host-Mississippi State and Campbell.
• The Bulldogs were selected to finish sixth in the Southern Conference in the league's preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's head coaches.

On Deck
Alabama will continue the current roadtrip with a visit to Columbia, S.C., to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks for a three-game set from Thursday through Saturday. Games one and two are scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch followed by an 11 a.m. start on getaway day. The bookend games will air nationally on SEC Network with the middle game being broadcast on SEC Network+.
