I think we all know how vulnerable Miss State's secondary has been on defense. But looking at their 5 SEC games to date, The least amount of offense they gave up was to Arkansas who totaled 401 yards of total offense. The most they gave up was to Kentucky (504 total yards). On average they have given up 458 yards a game to Ark, Ky, Auburn, A&M, and LSU. Conversely in our 6 SEC games we have averaged 446 yards of offense per game. At home we have averaged 637 yards per game (Fl and A&M). That stat is somewhat misleading as our toughest competition has been on the road (351 yards per game). Miss State's SEC road wins were at LSU and Kentucky. They gave up an average of 515 yards in those games. Certainly an argument can be made that both Ky and LSU were consistently behind in those games and thus threw the ball more. Regardless MSU gave up 742 yards passing in those 2 games. From a logical standpoint we could expect to be in the 400+ total offense range. In the SEC games we have amassed 400+ yards of total offense we have averaged about 45 points per game. We play the games for a reason, but as the season gets deeper into the schedule it becomes clearer who you are as a team. I look for another week of pass 1st run 2nd from Bama and a game where we score in the upper 30's. If we do that I think our defense can deliver enough stops to win. Bama 38-23.

Should we win... Yes because we have a deeper and more experienced team in these games
Will we win... Who truly knows with the possible lsu hangover and the ability of presscott looming
If we win will it be a blowout... I really doubt it unless we come out emotionally charged like we did against a&m and they don't know how to respond, but I just see us getting a few key stops to win the game but I'm not on us shooting the moon like many believe

Based on what I've seen since the Arky game, it is our D-line that is really starting to live up to the hype. If the D-line and front seven overall can stop Dak then we will win. To do that, they need shut down MSU's running game - either by the RB or QB. Pressure hard up front and cover underneath. We'll win if we control the defensive line of scrimmage as our front sets the tone for the team now. If MSU can run, and we can only get pressure with blitzes, we will be in trouble.

I learned this the hard way but I will keep saying it. What one team does against another in the SEC does not matter. The transitive property needs to be avoided at all costs. Just ask A&M and AU or us against FL and then ask Georgia. We just have to play Bama ball period. If we do we win. I think we will fire both barrels this Saturday.

Oddly, we did not seem as physically beaten as we have the last few times we have played them, especially in Baton Rouge. I guess cynically part of that is because the offense wasn't on the field that much. And we managed good defensive line rotation. That said, our defensive guys have to be somewhat drained after Saturday. I'm hoping a great BDS atmosphere and resurgence by the offense gives us a lift.

We are far enough into the season where you can start to expect teams to perform to the levels they have been showing through the year. I was more worried about LSU there than I am MSU at home. Of course, we got out of Baton Rouge with no room to spare. LSU has definitely been improving over the season, as you'd expect from a very young team. MSU has not improved nearly as much, again as you'd expect with a team full of 4th and 5th year players. If anything, I think their performances against Kentucky and Arkansas were not so good as against *U and LSU.

I believe this one will be on the quarterbacks. If Blake performs like he has previously at home, or at the end of the LSU game, we should be fine. If Prescott struggles, or his leg injury is hampering him, we should be fine. If Blake struggles like he has on the road and Prescott is at the top of his game/we let him out of the pocket, it will be difficult for Alabama's defense to win another one almost single-handedly.

I'll be interested in Jess's analysis. I think our front 7 on defense is about a push with theirs, though we may have better depth. However, I think our DBs are better overall.

Reggie Ragland begs to differ.
OK, that's the first atomic wedgie I know of we have suffered at LSU. Seriously, not saying it wasn't a very physical game, because it was -- you could hear it. But we usually have guys limping around, helped from the field, needing x-rays or MRIs, after LSU (to be fair, they do, too). Outside of Yeldon who wasn't 100% going in, I don't really recall much of any of that. I honestly expected Cam to have to call it a night early, but he's split out wide in overtime. Vogler is going to practice more this week than last, etc.

I will also grant you that MSU probably isn't feeling any effect of last Saturday.

Gotcha. Sounded from that link that it was one beat-up group that our resident stewardess tucked in for the flight home.

one of the changes in our defense was significant. Kirby smart went to a zone read on occasion, to stop the qb draw. that play has hurt bama in several games. it gives our linebackers and secondary a better look at what is going on in the opponents back field. against dak Prescott he has excelled with his size, speed on key rushing plays. I am sure we will see a mix in our defense to keep him under better control. I think states defense was hurt more with deep passes than our short ones. maybe we can have some success deeper in this game, providing we have protection.
