This question and people's thoughts on it have fascinated me since the beginning stages of his candidacy.

I have heard some say he was chosen for this job. I have heard some call him a "Baby Christian". Some agree with Trump's own assessment that he is the best president ever for Christian causes.

But I also heard Trump say that he's never needed to ask forgiveness for anything he's done.

Given that the central tenet of Christianity is that all have sinned and should confess and repent their sins:

Is Donald Trump a Christian?

Preemptive strike against anyone claiming that we are judging: No, we are not. We do not hold the power to judge the man, at least not in the sense you may be considering. Matthew 7:15-20 has two verses (16,20) that proclaim we will know someone by the fruit they bear. We are merely proclaiming what we know.

The poll is private to encourage honest opinions.

I will reveal my belief that he is NOT a Christian since he has said he has never needed to confess or ask forgiveness of his sins - in fact, he said he has never done anything for which he needed forgiveness. Since this is antithetical to Christianity he therefore cannot be a Christian.

None of this means he can't become a Christian, but it would take some effort on his part. Whether this question matters is another issue.

This is a reminder to play nice. There will be no attacking other members. Bring your logic and keep your emotions under control.

How could we possibly know what is in his heart?

I answer "No", but not as an answer to the question, but as an answer to his actions. He does not act like a man worried about being judged for his behavior.

[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Trump loves Trump and Trump only. His wife is a trophy. His office is a trophy. He worships money, power, and self. This does not describe a Christian.

i'm going with no based on the definitions of what his christian supporters and many others say it means to be a christian.

of course, it seems that the conservative christians (e.g. jefferies, falwell jr.) have changed that definition to being much more transactional. i guess that has always been the case to some extent.

I do not know what is in his heart. But based on his actions and lifestyle, I voted “No”. I think having all the preachers at the White House laying on hands is just for show.

he is every bit as Christian as I am
No, he's not, and it's not even close. You are a decent human being that cares about his fellow man. You are intelligent. You are not egotistical and you are NOT a chronic liar.

Like it or not, you are much more Christian than Trump. You have many Christian values. It doesn't bother me that you are atheist because you are just being true to your convictions. Personally, I think Jesus himself can respect that.

ETA: to add the word NOT. Pretty important distinction.

I'm not going to pass judgement on the man as I don't know his heart, but as several have stated above, he doesn't display the characteristics of Jesus, imo.
If you believe then only God can pass (final) judgment (and perhaps even if you aren't a believer, but that's another issue). We certainly aren't trying to do that. Even the thieves on the crosses next to Jesus had their opportunity just before death.

It's not my job to judge him or anyone else. Even though I struggle with judgement daily. God will judge us all. I personally think we should go ahead and close this thread.
Again, we are not trying to pass judgment - that is God's job.

Perhaps I should have asked "Does Trump display the qualities you would expect a Christian to exhibit?", but I think that is too easy.

"two Corinthians" and " I've never done anything to ask forgiveness for" should be two great indicators of the answer
Imagine the reaction of the fundies if Obama had said this. They overlook Trump’s lifestyle because they say “We elected him to be president, not a preacher”.

While I agree with this, you can’t say you don’t like Pete because homosexuality violates God’s law but overlook Trump’s adultery, which violates a law God Himself actually said.

I get it, i just tread lightly wrt to judging where someones heart is based on their actions.

Were I betting man...

But I'll leave my answer as is - Trump doesn't appear very Christ-like to me.

No, but Trump is not unique either, lots of other past Prez and current congress folks like to say they are but are not.
Searching around there has been polling that even most evangelicals have concerns about his morals and such.
I suspect trump gets cut a lot of slack because they believe he will not cave when it comes to issues that they see as the murder of babies. They want a fighter, not a preacher.

They want someone to help implement their version of sharia law.
