Is the Ohio st model sustainable?

To answer the OP, it depends on the answer to two questions:
1. Will tOSU continue this level of support on an annual basis?
2. Will there be a collective bargaining agreement for a collegiate analogue to the NFLPA?

I tend to doubt how often any school can go to the pay-for-play window. At some point, the donor bases of even the wealthiest schools gag.

Even aTm found that out. One year, sure. Two to three years, OK…..but you better be winning playoff games. Four years? IDK.

If there is no collegiate analogue to the NFLPA, the donor bases are going to run short.

At some point, the major schools will run into the conundrum that faces the IRS….there just aren’t enough truly deep pockets to keep funding the over-spending on to infinity.

Can’t agree more. The number of boosters at a given school who can repeatedly just GIVE AWAY LARGE SUMS OF MONEY year after year, are few. Funding these very expensive teams year over year over year is untenable. Add in the attitudes of the player for hire and you will eventually run in to aTm’s situation at some point. It’s going to take a super strong coach to be able to manage a pay for play team and mold them into an actual team with one heartbeat.

Could be, but that doesn't seem to be the case in the pros.

I did see that the NFL is somehow considering a salary cap for QBs because they are eating up so much of the cap space for teams.

I think they can strike lightning in a bottle like LSwho 2019 but I dont think you can get on a Saban, Bear Bryant , USC run under coach PC using this model. But only time will tell.

Yeah, the more I think, this just makes no sense. You're guaranteeing Milroe is your QB if you consistantly snap the ball into the ground, turning every other snap into sandlot ball. If it's obvious that you're only doing it to Milroe, you're gonna get a team meeting in the shower.

Ohio State sponsors 35 sports. This includes pistol and synchronized swimming, which aren’t even NCAA sports. They also sponsor men’s gymnastics, which only has 15 schools in the entire NCAA. Of those, three are in D3 and three are the service academies. Oklahoma sponsors a program.

Oregon sponsors 20. The only “oddball” they have is women’s acrobatics and tumbling. Not an official sport but on the NCAA’s list of emerging sports.

Alabama has 21.

I think that is where we are today but it is legal now. I don’t believe that OSU can be as successful as USC. The kids won the games and titles on the field. I can’t diminish what they accomplished.

Seriously, here is the deal with all of this. College football is not the end of the road, and regulated NIL will never be as lucrative as the NFL. Everything a player does on the field gets evaluated. Since all of these guys want to make it to the NFL, why would you want to put poor play on tape on purpose. We have heard Nick say when NFL scouts watch cut ups of a player, there is no context. They don’t know that player Y had a beef with player X , so he played poorly to get back at him . They just know his play was not very good.
