This is headed for unionization and a CBA, so some schools are spending like crazy while the window remains open.
Can’t agree more. The number of boosters at a given school who can repeatedly just GIVE AWAY LARGE SUMS OF MONEY year after year, are few. Funding these very expensive teams year over year over year is untenable. Add in the attitudes of the player for hire and you will eventually run in to aTm’s situation at some point. It’s going to take a super strong coach to be able to manage a pay for play team and mold them into an actual team with one heartbeat. To answer the OP, it depends on the answer to two questions:
1. Will tOSU continue this level of support on an annual basis?
2. Will there be a collective bargaining agreement for a collegiate analogue to the NFLPA?
I tend to doubt how often any school can go to the pay-for-play window. At some point, the donor bases of even the wealthiest schools gag.
Even aTm found that out. One year, sure. Two to three years, OK…..but you better be winning playoff games. Four years? IDK.
If there is no collegiate analogue to the NFLPA, the donor bases are going to run short.
At some point, the major schools will run into the conundrum that faces the IRS….there just aren’t enough truly deep pockets to keep funding the over-spending on to infinity.
I'm a little younger, and it's already unrecognizable. It's too far gone already.Being in my 60s, I guess I'm in that group that considers it unrecognizable soon.
Could be, but that doesn't seem to be the case in the pros.I see team chemistry being the casualty of unbridled pay-for-play. $200k lineman protecting a $2M QB. DBs and Safetys on the field with large disparities in funding (Caleb?). To my knowledge money wasn't involved, but I'm convinced that last year Seth McGlochlin(sp?) had it out for Milroe and did what he could to make Milroe's football life difficult. Hate to think what it would have been if there was a financial disparity involved. OSU's problem now.
If he did then Seth isn't much of a teammate, not only hurting Milroe but hurting your teammates at a important positionI see team chemistry being the casualty of unbridled pay-for-play. $200k lineman protecting a $2M QB. Beat UM and make a run in the playoffs and he is safe. Has to beat UM.Big, do you think anything less than a national championship this year will get Day fired?
That's hilarious.I see team chemistry being the casualty of unbridled pay-for-play. $200k lineman protecting a $2M QB. DBs and Safetys on the field with large disparities in funding (Caleb?). Conspiracy theory. If he did then Seth isn't much of a teammate, not only hurting Milroe but hurting your teammates at a important position
Yep. This is tinfoil hat to the nth power if you don't have some inside. I can't believe CNS would play him or even have him on the team if this was suspected. If he did then Seth isn't much of a teammate, not only hurting Milroe but hurting your teammates at a important position
Nick was in on the conspiracy. He wanted Ty, the team wanted Jalen. See, I can do it too.Yep. This is tinfoil hat to the nth power if you don't have some inside. I can't believe CNS would play him or even have him on the team if this was suspected.
Yeah, the more I think, this just makes no sense. You're guaranteeing Milroe is your QB if you consistantly snap the ball into the ground, turning every other snap into sandlot ball. If it's obvious that you're only doing it to Milroe, you're gonna get a team meeting in the shower.
Carroll’s success at USC (which lasted only 8 years) was fueled by paying players.I think they can strike lightning in a bottle like LSwho 2019 but I dont think you can get on a Saban, Bear Bryant , USC run under coach PC using this model. But only time will tell.
So the kid whose NIL money went to feed the poor had it out for his quarterback?I see team chemistry being the casualty of unbridled pay-for-play. $200k lineman protecting a $2M QB. And he left under a cloud of corruption and the school got blasted with sanctions.

I think that is where we are today but it is legal now. I don’t believe that OSU can be as successful as USC. The kids won the games and titles on the field. I can’t diminish what they accomplished.
