Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Miami can’t hurt us now. The other positive is that Miami and Clemson dropped 6 & 5 the week after they lost. SMU losing could drop them 4-5 spots.

There are unconfirmed rumors that losing in the Championship game should not hurt the team too much.

This is the kind of black box that we're dealing with here.

The committee hasn't liked SMU much all year. If you go back to week 13 for instance, SMU was ranked 13th below Boise State who also had one loss. This also placed them below four two loss teams and they haven't beaten anyone of note since then.

They will fall below Alabama in the polls and BCS if they lose. The only question is how the committee would handle that and that's where the ranking of Miami at 12 concerns me a little bit. They are willing to over-rank the ACC a bit so could they decide to not punish SMU for a conference championship loss but considering how soft their schedule is obviously it should mean something.

Normally I'd say SMU losing would drop them out entirely.....but since we've been told conference championships won't hurt a team....
We were only actually told that by pundits. The committee said a team won't be "unduly" punished, nothing at all about not punishing a team. In fact in the interview he just said they indicated that conference championship games would be treated as an additional data point, indicating Alabama won't be dropped but conference champ losers might be.

That's not what they said - they said a conference championship game loss wouldn't cause a team to be "unduly punished" - that can mean whatever they want to rationalize it to mean.
