Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

Lots of stress happening.

We are at 11. We likely wont move higher regardless. Like CA suggested above and I mentioned earlier, the B1G wont have more teams than the SEC. You can be assured of that.

so, Bama is likely 11 regardless-of everything else. The ACC deserves 1 team. That’s all they will get. The B12 also deserves 1. The G5 gets one. Notre Dame gets the last.

Clemson losing makes it easier to sell, but I think we are ahead of SMU if they lose. ACC teams have dropped 5-6 spots when they lose. Their SOS is too low.
If Clemson wins big, Alabama will wind up at 10, IMO.

I can see no way that if Boise and/or SMU lose that they don't drop out.

UNLV was up 24-23 over Boise late. Boise didn't go back ahead until 3:25 left in the 4th. Outside of UNLV, Boise State has played at Oregon and lost by 3. The rest of their schedule is absolute garbage.

SMU lost to BYU by 3. Outside of that, they've beaten Louisville by 7, Duke by 3. Those are their best wins.

You can't keep them in if they lose.

But, if they do lose, UNLV and Clemson jump way up.

I hope Boise and SMU win and then get ran through in the playoff. Problem with them winning....theirs no way either deserve a bye.
Jim Phillips of the ACC already whining about Alabama being ahead of Miami and basically telling the committee they “can’t drop SMU out if they lose to Clemson” Saturday.

This committee certainly can keep SMU in. I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw Warde Manual after Thanksgiving dinner. IMO SMU must win for us to stay in. Clemson would have to absolutely destroy SMU in an embarrassing fashion for this committee to kick them out after the championship game.

I agree that SMU and Boise State haven’t played anyone. Nor Miami for that matter. But this committee has left the door open for two ACC bids if Clemson wins.

And if Clemson squeaks by? Say a 24-21 last minute win? Does this committee keep SMU in? THAT is my thought. If Clemson wins, we need them to destroy SMU.
If Clemson wins on a last second FG then Heather Dinish can walk around saying she was right......I'd assume.

I don't watch either team enough to know anything about this game....other than SMU is favored by 2.5. The ESPN analytics says SMU has a 53.8% chance to win.

That's the extent of what I know about these teams outside of looking at who they've played.

I wonder how Alabama players will respond. I suspect this will inflate some egos.
If they aren't humbled by losses to Oklahoma and Vandy, they aren't going to be humbled. We all know the potential to make the ultimate run is within reach for this group but they are going to have to light a fire under their butt and get to work. Throw the damn stars next to your name out the window and start working like a walk on. CKD needs to start calling out the bull he is seeing that is keeping this team from reaching its potential and lets go play like Bama plays. Bring in some Julio's and Ingram's in a few times over the weeks of preparation for the playoffs and let them be the bad guy if you have to. We are all sick of the coddling. It's time to man up and be a DOG! In between the whistles be nasty and dominate. We may not have everything we want but we have everything we need.

For those of you worried about us not making it, let me put it this way. If the committee didn't want us in, they would have done it this week. The band aid has been ripped off. Bama is in and they aren't changing that now. It would be asinine to your marquee conference and biggest money contributor to catapult them up and then take them off during the last poll. We won't move up or down regardless of what happens. ND/Alabama is a mega game that everyone will watch. This is about being fair, but it is also about money. Alabama deserves to be in (in a 12 team format), but they also make sense to be in from an economic standpoint.

We're currently the last at-large team in the playoff.

The way I heard Manuel's statement, none of the 3-loss teams that aren't in a conference championship game will jump us. So USCe and OM are out.

That doesn't mean we can't fall out of the playoff. Just that neither USCe nor OM will be there in our place.

UTw and UGA are in regardless of the outcome of the SECCG. It's just a question of who gets a bye and where the loser is seeded. IOW, no effect on us.

Same thing for Oregon and PSU in the B1G.

The real issue for us is the ACCCG. If SMU wins, Clemson is out (they're currently behind us anyway) and we're safe. But if Clemson wins, they get the automatic spot as conference champs. The question then becomes how far, if any, would SMU fall?

Right now, thery're #8. Would they fall out altogether? If so, we're still in. If not, Clemson gets our spot....not because the committee perceives them as a better or even more deserving team...but because they're ACC champs.

My personal take is that if SMU loses, they might fall some. But the committee has already said that participants in conference championship games won't be unduly penalized for a loss. So if SMU loses, but doesn't get totally blown out and embarrassed, I might see them falling. But not all the way out.

Bottom Line: SMU wins: we're in. Clemson wins by less than 35 or so: we're out. Go Ponies!

Side Note: It's our own fault we're in this position. If we don't yak up hairballs against both Vandy and OU, we're in regardless. Might even be in the SECCG.

I understand what you're trying to say, but in the event Clemson wins, then we would have to move up to #10 to get in unless Clemson or the Big 12 winner were to jump us and we stay at #11.

Bama absolutely would have been in the SECCG without projectile vomiting in Norman.

All they had to do was beat OU and AU to get to 10-2 and it would have been Texas vs Bama

The only weird tie breaker scenario was if Missouri had lost their final two games then I think would have changed it to Tenn playing Texas.

But anyway it's all irrelevant now.

I think everyone who is worrying is worrying for nothing.

If they wanted to push Bama out they would have put them at 12 to give wiggle room to move them up or down.

Bama is locked at #11 and they probably only move them to 10 or 12 if they are trying to manipulate a specific matchup.
