Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

Automatic bids mean falling 5 spots isn't required.

They will drop below one loss Indiana. They will drop below Boise State who blew out the #20 team.

The only question is if they fall a third spot, to below Alabama. Georgia fell 6 spots last year when they were the undefeated defending national champion and lost in a one score game to Alabama in the SECCG.

Edit:
AP is out, Alabama is ahead of SMU. As I said earlier Alabama will be ahead in the BCS for what ever that is worth.
One point difference. I have a feeling there is a few people on the committee with there feet in the sand fighting for SMU and few people standing with Alabama. Who blinks first is the question or since we have a week til playoffs start how about a game Saturday to see who gets in Alabama or SMU.

Listen committee.....I'm sick as a dog.....got the crap my 14 year old son had.....just put Bama in for crying out loud. Nobody wants to watch SMU in the playoffs other than Eric Dickerson and Craig James.

The whole thing is ridiculous....SMU lost to both ranked teams it played. It only played 2...and lost both for crying out loud.

You know what else is ridiculous.....Boise and Arizona State getting byes. Automatic bids and byes for teams that played ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ALL SEASON!!!!!!!!
But SMU beat a really good 9-3 Duke team. Sean McDonough told me so last night…..

I said after the SMU game it's probably a coin toss and there are going to be two factions. The repercussions will go well beyond this playoff though.

If SoS doesn't matter, then the regular season doesn't really matters either. Just play whoever, it really doesn't matter.

In a post from earlier in the week, this was my parting question: committees generally have one or two “alphas” that drive the decision. The question becomes “If so who are they, and does Bama (and Sankey and the SEC) weld the big stick with them?”

That is the watershed….

If Bama lands at #13, the portal paperwork is going to be popping of in Tuscaloosa. DeBoer is going to have to spend the afternoon assembling the team for next year. A QB decision will be needed to be made today to quell some of the potential rebellion. Going to be a stressful day for DeBoer anyway you slice it.

If we Bama gets in, all of this is postponed for a few weeks.

Vegas odds have gone astronomical against Bama getting the last spot. I hate it, but thus are the rewards for putting up 3 against OU. Never thought I would see a day where they would be a 12-team playoff including SMU, Indiana and Arizona State and Bama sitting at home.

My first year of playing organized basketball I was on the A team but I was struggling to get playing time. I watched the B team play and saw people I was better than dominating and actually tried to leave the A team to go play for the B team where I'd be their best player and have a shot at 20 points a game instead of sitting on the bench. My coach wouldn't let me do it though.

This is what it will be like if the SEC has Alabama, South Carolina, and Ole Miss sitting at home. All three actually belong in the playoff, but they are being punished for playing better competition. They could be dominating in those other conferences and everyone knows it.

I suspect the QB decision has already been made, and we will find out about it soon..............as for the portal, the NCAA is to be blamed for all of this

Time to start scheduling weak teams and thump them all and go to a 6-7 team schedule

I still can’t get over last night, Clemson was blowing out SMU, then they couldn’t even move the ball on them, Garrett Riley was calling some head scratching plays, then magicially with 9 seconds left, they were able to get the ball within FG range.

I’ve never been one to say sports are rigged and I don’t wanna say Dabo intentionally let his foot off the gas but you couldn’t script that any worse for Alabama.

So what's the issue? Clemson moves to 10. SMU drops to 11. Bama drops to 12. Done.

Let's get this playoff underway.

Any better for the ACC you mean.

It’s not like it hasn’t happened before.

That won't happen due to financial considerations.

What we might actually be seeing now is "terminal lucidity" of the rest of college football. They're dead basically. As I said elsewhere, there are only 4 football brands left outside of the SEC and Big 10 that carry any clout at all. Despite this, they are giving out 3 automatic playoff bids and hundreds of millions annually so we can get teams like Arizona St. a reject from the Pac-12?

So the reality is that while these charity cases get their playoff slots and their welfare payments, they are still slipping further behind. The SEC and Big 10 are getting richer, and better. There's nothing there to even the gap because the brands are just not there. Arizona St. and Iowa State will never draw the interest that Texas and Oklahoma draw.

Just like we woke up one day and had NIL and the playoff, we'll wake up one day and these other programs will be so far behind that even a stupid committee can't pretend they're equal.
