I was just wondering if there was an up-to-date list somewhere available? If not, I am sure we could fill in the gaps....

I know a few but are there any others???

1. Mark Dantonio
2. Derek Dooley
3. Jimbo Fisher
4. Kirby Smart
5. Will Muschamp
6. James Willis
7. Mike Haywood
8. Kevin Steele
9. Rod Middleton
10. Todd Grantham
11. Sal Sunseri
12. Joe Pendry
13. Bobby Williams
14. Jim McElwain

That's all I got so far....

Someone asked this of me the other day. It put me on the spot and I could only come up with Jimbo Fisher and Derek Dooley.

I didn't think of Dantonio, and it didn't even cross my mind to include those that haven't yet gotten head coaching positions.

That's a pretty astounding list though.

Impressive list, but I don't know if Steele and Willis count.

Steele had already made his reputation as a defensive coach long before he joined Saban's staff. Willis coached under Saban for one year; probably not long enough to be considered a protege.

But a great list none the less.

I don't know if I'd list Joe Pendry as a "protege" since he had extensive NFL experience before coming to Alabama. I'd also list Sunseri under the John Fox tree since he made his name initially known with the work he did in Carolina.

And if you want to talk about coaching trees, think of this: Coach Saban is a distant branch in the Ray Perkins coaching tree.

Ray Perkins had Bill Parcells on his staff in New York, who then had Bill Belichick on his staff in New York, who then had Nick Saban on his staff in Cleveland.
