It's A Small World After All!

Definitely a small world. Even living in L.A. I see Bama paraphanelia all the time. I used to run into Joe Willie at a restaurant in West L.A. (Not West Hollywood, thank you) I used to frequent. I had a great conversation one afternoon with a former Tide OL whose name escapes me at the moment.
One of my favorite Bama thangs went like this. I was watching the LSWho game last year and my dog waited patiently until halftime for me to take him out for a little walk. As I rounded the corner, I saw this cute little African American girl about 6 years old coming up the street on her bicycle. She was peddaling fast and with each push on the pedals she was chanting "Roll Tide, Roll Tide, Roll Tide, Roll Tide." I had to stop in amazement. Life's a funny thang.

People laugh at me when I tell them that "STEAK-UMS brand is a freaking joke. Do not eat that crap!" Its hard to change peoples minds but when they eat a true cheese steak they understand!!!
If ever anyone is in central mississippi or near philadelphia Mississippi. Hit me up and I will set you up with a killer Cheese Steak!

More Today Show small world that barely missed you...
Katie Curic's (not sure of the spelling since I don't watch the show) No #1 assistant was a Bama grad. She gave everybody from Bama the royal treatment when in NYC.

really? wish i would of seen her!

my wife has been amazed at the places we've been and heard Roll Tide because i wear my Bama hat!.
we've been to las vegas 4 of the last 5 years. the first 3 times we'd heard Roll Tide a couple different times through the week while on the strip. this last trip we'd gone the entire week and not one Roll Tide.
we're sitting in the airport waiting to fly back to the east coast and my wife comments that we'd not heard Roll Tide all week!
i'm standing in line at taco bell in the airport and hear ROLL TIDE! i turn around and it's a pilot! we talked for a few minutes and it's OUR Pilot!
we board the plane got comfortable and the stewardess comes and asked if we'd change seats and if we'd mind sitting in first class? we get to 2 seats right behind the flight deck! the pilot pokes his head out and asked if we're comfortable and i just gave him a ROLL TIDE!!

Nicodemus,
My stepfather is from New Zealand. He was an ex-pro rugby player and and came to the states when he started losing his eyesight. He ended up in Gulf Shores and loved it there. Well, he was a big Bama fan before moving here and apparently Alabama has a pretty good following in New Zealand. One of their good friends that is also from New Zealand, lives in Orlando and has a cousin coming over in a couple of months. The one thing that he insists on doing while he is here is to go to a Bama game. When I talked to him on the phone that is all he talks about.

Glad you were not a recruit!
Some barner sitting in his cave not wearing his gear would have probably tailed you!!!

I met that girl in a business meeting a few years ago.

I'd like to help thing I spread the Bama gospel in New Zealand.

One of of my best friends in high school was an exchange student from NZ. She stayed in the US for two years and actually graduated from high school with us. After we graduated, I went to NZ for a few weeks with her and I gave some Bama gear away as presents to people that hosted me while down there. :)

I can't believe I forgot my favorite "small world Bama story." It involves my parents.

In the late 1960s, they were driving to the World's Fair in Montreal and when they got to the Canadian border, my dad remembered he had his pistol under the driver's seat and was kind of freaking out about it. Back then, they only randomly searched vehicles at the border, though everyone had to stop and show them their papers. Well, my dad decided the wise course of action is feign ignorance if they search his car and say he didn't realize it was under there and that he thought he'd left it at home. He said he was getting nervous about being checked because they hadn't checked the last 7-8 cars ahead of them.

So he's sweating this one big time and the Canadian border guard walks around to the back of the car, sees the Alabama license plate and instead of asking my dad to get out of the car and open the trunk (which he thought was going to happen since Alabama had been in the news a lot lately for the riots), walks up to him and says, "So, is Coach Bryant going to have a good team this year?" :D My dad said they talked football for a few minutes and the guy waved them through.
