Fat chance. This will never happen.
I think it will be a done deal. Their program is above and beyond a mere alledged rapist. How dare anyone threaten their road to a potential NC. JW will play, and no one will hear 'If only JW hadn't been a rapist'. Coaches like CNS and one 'Bear' (who was well known to sit out stellar players who didn't adhere to the standards established by said coaches) are rare. Does anyone think that CNS would play AJ if he were in this same situation? I think AJ would be benched at the least. At the most, he would no longer be part of Alabama football.

Re: Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault - update: DNA match found

So several (most?) folks on Tidefans think FSU would play someone indicted for rape? That the president of the university would make a special exception to win a football game by superseding a suspension? That a judge would allow the football coach to keep tabs on the player and leave the state? That all this would go on in front of the national media?

I've not read or heard anything from the Coach or the University that would have me believe that they're undertaking their own investigation and will act accordingly.
What have you heard or read? I guess I could go to the FSU blogs and be influenced by their fans. But that would be like learning about the USSR from Stalin.
Or do I owe someone or something an apology?

Not saying that JW is quilty...but yes we have seen colleges and legal authorities cover up a lot of transgressions to protect the football program. Penn State immediately comes mind.

I recall a Bears player charged with a felony being given permission to travel to play in a playoff game against the Saints. Of course it was an Illinois judge, and this was before the NFL cared about that sort of things... I thought it was absurd, but it darn sure happened.

Penn State didn't have the eyes of America on them. Not close to the same situation.

Re: Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault - update: DNA match found

Actually, they are a little fuzzy because Tank Johnson was involved in so many illegal activities (I didn't keep up with them well so my recollection can be a bit off) that it's virtually impossible to puzzle them all together. That, and he pleaded down on some stuff, but just to illustrate the point here's this:
"SKOKIE, Ill. (Jan. 23, 2007) -- Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson will play in the Super Bowl -- with court approval and a warning from a judge to stay out of trouble.
Cook County Judge John Moran granted a defense request to allow Johnson to leave the state as he awaits trial on gun possession charges. The Bears will play the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl in Miami on Feb. 4.
Moran set no special restrictions on Johnson but said he must obey the law "or dire consequences will result.

So we're clear on that point he was already on probation when he had the gun charges... but hey, Super Bowl is more important than a guy violating probation on a serious charge. It made no sense that he was not kept from playing by someone, but he wasn't.

A rape charge vs a gun charge seems like a stretch. Add in the SB was legitimately work related and that the prosecutor had no issue PLUS there wasn't a Bears rule like the FSU rule and it's not much of an analogy.

That's a good point. It's not like Meggs has had a little over a year to build his case. He's just had this hand grenade dropped in his lap, and there's probably a lot of work to catch up on.
Meggs, given what he already knows had enough probable cause to arrest JW. That would have taken maybe 4 seconds after learning the DNA match. For whatever reason he is stalling.

JIB-Why are you always taking the side opposite The Tide and/or the majority of well intended Bama fans? Playing devil's advocate or typing while drinking your Barn kook-aid?

I dont.

I'm a Bama fan. I don't have to prove my loyalty to you or anyone else. Being rational doesn't make me an Auburn fan.

In a word, yes. They've already swept a couple of brushes with the law under the rug at FSU and he has complaints from females (not rape) going back through high school, so I tend to think they'll do anything to keep him on the field. I, like LD above, would not put anything past them. And remember he graduated from there and is familiar with their culture...

They may have tried that a year ago but I don't think they'd do that now - too much scrutiny. We may never know - if Winston isn't charged, and I think the longer it takes the less likely it is, it could actually be because there's not enough evidence. It appears the rape kit was inconclusive, so who knows what they're waiting on..

I do not see him being charged with rape as well. He is either going to skate altogether or get charged with some minor, secondary offense and forced to pay a fine or do community service. You watch...

Why does it appear that the kit was inconclusive? ...and as an avid reader of this board, you do tend to like to stir the pot. Just an observation. I will leave it alone now, my apologies for airing my opinion on that here.

Stirring the pot is your opinion. Most people that know me would say I'm too full of Bama - that I'm the crazy fan. I just happen to attempt to be logical on here which upsets some of the nutty folks. Saying I don't believe in large scale FSU conspiracies isn't stirring the pot. The only thing I'll plead guilty to is unchecked pessimism from time to time.

If the rape kit was conclusive in that she was raped/roughed up then it makes no logical sense for the DA not to have already had an indictment. Maybe not a while ago, but by now for sure.

I think someone said that all sexual violence cases are handled as felonies in Florida.

We all have our own opinions & I think there's just to much pressure & National coverage for them not to go forward without charging Jameis..I think he's making sure he's got everything in order before pressing charges..I think he's going to have to charge him & let Jameis prove his innocence in court..JMO
