Thankfully, there was only one real surprise for the Alabama coaching staff on Wednesday, which happened approximately 20 minutes before Smith’s announcement.

“We have a commitment today that no one knows anything about," Shula told Ross earlier in the morning.

Shula’s wife Shari gave birth to Ryan Lucy Shula, 6 pounds, 15 ounces and 19 inches, at DCH Regional Medial Center.

“His wife needs an extra star in heaven," Kines said. “To be involved in recruiting until the very end, meeting with parents and having people into her home until Sunday, bless her heart she was about as pregnant as you can be. I thought she was going to have the baby right there with a prospect on hand"

Guess that would bring a new meaning to "Official Visit" and "checking out the facilities." Of course the NCAA would give the death penalty for that!

Never thought about coaches wives being involved with recruiting (no surprise here...there's a lot that I don't know!) Ryan Lucy Shula, welcome to the Crimson Tide Family!!! Wonder if the name Ryan was just a coincidence......or maybe not! Even spelled the same way. :) :)
