From what I remember of Coach Saban's time as LSU, it seemed like he was able to "coach up" many of the 3* players to be solid starters. Also, when all is said and done, a school is lucky to have even half of one particular recruiting class contribute significantly to the program. I guess the star system helps a fan base to keep score as to which way a program is moving more than anything else.

P.S. I also remember a good number of 5* players transferring because of lack of playing time (barrington edwards, amp lee etc).

Yeah, a coach once told me that, if out of a class of 25, 15 contributed significantly at some point during their career, that it was an outstanding recruiting class. His definition of contributing significantly was to be a starter or high level back-up.

Wonder what the "rankings" would look like if the players were evaluated AFTER their senior season? Kind've like a before, and after ranking? Not too many of the so called "eggsperts" would want to be a part of that!! :biggrin2:
