News Article: JOX ends the Opening Drive with Jay, Al and Tony ...

I had quit listening a long time ago. Only exceptions was to hear Paul Finebaum on Mondays and Phil Savage on Wednesdays during the football season. Total of about 20 minutes.

The rest was moronic callers and Tony Kurre trying to stir the pot. I'd rather listen to CDs to learn French. No blue font.

I find the Roundtable to be fantastic, a perfect balance of callers, terrific interviews/guests, and the show's personalities. If you haven't listened in a while, I recommend trying it again. They really have something special with that show.

That said, moving it to mornings might be risky, but it could also explode with the move. I've heard some PDs around the state aren't as happy as they used to be with Rick and Bubba. Take that for what it's worth, but that show has become something drastically different from its fun early days over the last few years. As PFC Gump might say: "That's all I'm gonna say about that."

JOX could expand syndication with the RT. I just hope a move like that and this move that has already happened don't change the show. It's terrific.

Dunnaway? Izzatchoo?

Qu'est-ce que tu as contre la France?

I have preferred the Roundtable for quite a while, although its gonna be different listening to it during the drive into work, I usually listen to newstalk 105.5 for the traffic updates, but I'm sure I'll give them a try.
I bailed on the OD about year 2...I bailed on Finebaum right before he went national, just too many callers that are constantly auditioning to become "regular callers"...just way too many goons with a cell phone. And too many regular callers that, unfortunately, are called upon to carry the show, which is like asking a jr high school coach to be Bama's defensive coordinator...its a hopeless case. Whomever they get to fill the 10-2 slot, I hope they are local and can carry the load.

I tried to listen to it online or iheartradio, but it was just maddening. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities about it and I really wanted to.

They were funny back when they were local and hungry...but that was a long long time ago.

The humor has declined as everybody on the show has gotten older and more familiar. It became a lot more serious after Rick's son drowned.

Rick and Bubba was quite different back in the day. They had a cast of characters and regulars that drove the show. I stopped listening shortly after Don Juan left . I could tell there was a changing of the guard so to speak and the characters that once drove the show were no longer there to contribute.

No, you’re not. Many of us like our humor funny. Those 2 are awful and very difficult to listen to on any day.

When I listen to a music station I expect music - not some red necks attempting witty banter. That goes for Rick & Bubba and John Boy & Billy.

What took so long ? It should have been scrapped a decade ago. The Opening Drive was one of the worst shows that I've ever listened to. It's the main reason I got Sirius XM three years ago. Tony, Al and Jay were just flat awful. Al seemed to take over the show and cater to the Auburn trolls who called in regularly. Jay never fought back. Tony is drunken, washed up disk jokey that made middle school-esque jokes daily. The callers are what ruined that show really. Golden Domer, etc. made me want to throw something they were so dumb. They tried to take Finebaum's blueprint with the idiot and annoying callers and failed miserably. I'm frankly surprised that JOX is still in business. The Round Table is the only thing holding that business together.

I usually go between Rick and Bubba and Clay Travis on my morning drive. This stinks to me. I hope they’ll bring back Matt and Scott. I really enjoyed them.

I’m a Roundtable fan and have been since they started with D & B. Didn’t care for it much when Ian Fitzsimmons was on there. I’ll miss having them on midday. I usually stream them in the background while I work. To me their style fits well there. They tried putting them 2-5p during the finebaum strike. I don’t think it went well. I’ll listen 6-10 but probably not the whole show like I do now.

Outside of Finebaum, I stopped listening to Birmingham talk radio when Mark and Brian left in 1987.

The OD especially was boring and dull imo.

Normally I am not too harsh on talking heads. One reason I hated Round Table was the TRASH ON THE TABLE. It was mostly vulgar and silliness. Two things I won't listen to on sports are Political Correctness Crap and Vulgarness. I have the Media for Political Correctness and there is Porn if I want vulgar.
