Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

I can't wait til we get good so this isn't so stressful. In reality I feel like this recruiting class is most stressful because we are having to count on so many of these guys to start next year, so when the best guys we're after go somewhere else...well it sorta hurts. But once things get established, the only thing Im really gonna worry about is the QB & OL (which we usually don't have a problem recruiting) recruits first and foremost, everything else will fall into place, and players will be lined up to come here also.
The day I stop being stressed during recruiting season is the day I become a Pac-10 fan.

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

Unfortunately Star isn't "already a pretty good at quarterback" at Bama and he's not even "already" at Bama. Maybe he misspoke but his description clearly describes a place that has an underclassman QB in place who is "already" pretty good, not an incoming QB who "could" be good.

I'm not saying I think he's OU bound. I think you can be convinced you need to go somewhere that "already" has a great underclassman QB one week then be reminded that that that "great" QB may not be there 4 years the next week. Catch a kid on any given week and you get a different snapshot of how the recruiting process is unfolding. JJ probably needs to be reminded that going to a school for one player is not only putting all your eggs in one basket but it's missing the bigger picture.

Of course that's just me pretending to know what he meant, or as you said, stirring crap.
Good points. Julio is going to go where he can have the earliest playing time and impact, and the CURRENT qb play at that institution will probably figure into his decision....

Well, I dont know much, but I would bet on the following two things: 1) we will send JJ a letter of intent to sign, and 2) if JJ chooses not to sign it CNS will have a fine player lined up to fill his spot. We will have a great class with or without him. Sure hope he comes to Bama tho.
C'mon now don't start throwing logic and sanity into the conversation. We already have game breakers/changers that have given us a handshake. JJ will not make or break this incoming class.

Julio, we'd love to see you come to THE University of Alabama, if not, good luck wherever you go.

I don't see anything clearly about it. And I think he believes Star is a good QB, and in this situation that's all that matters.

I would agree that JJ may think Star is "already" a good quarterback but I can't imagine he thinks Star is "already" a freshman or sophmore.

Of course I also don't think one quote holds all the secrets of where JJ is going to end up. Just saying that I don't think this particular quote was in any way a reference to Star and Bama.

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

CrimsonSurfer posted a link to a thread on OUInsiders a couple of weeks ago that brought up these exact talking points.

JJ's comments seem to the points brought up in this post.

Forewarning: anyone that is an Alabama fan that has a soft spot for the Sooners shouldn't read the rest of the thread.
I love the way one of their posters edited our commitment list . He turned all of the "Ath's" into WR's . Brilliant .

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

Either way I cant wait till Coach Saban starts cherry picking recruits left and right away from the other schools like ou. Id like to go right into ou,fla,ga and others schools backyards that I wont even mention. That would be music to my ears. Im completely sick and tired of ou and those types of teams coming into OUR state and grabbing recruits away from our school. Im of the mindset that it will eventually happen but it will take a year or two. Once that train starts moving it wont stop and the momentum will carry us back to the top for good.

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

Now this is my opinion but as far as ou their a joke. Theyve been emabarrassed 2 year in a row by boise st and wv and blown out this year while playing in the lame 12.
We may have lost to ulm but so what who else hasnt beat us the past 10 years. Id just love to schedule them for a home and home in 2 to 3 years. They could barely beat us under fraud and Shula and wanted to buy their way out of the game. I dont care what anyone says about liking them. Ive never liked them, shorty stoops, barry switzer, their fight song, wagon train crap, or anything else about them. Id love for Bama to march right into that crackerbox stadium that they play in and pound their faces into the turf. I doubt that they would even win 8 games yearly if they played in the sec and thats why theyre always overated. If they want talk big then play us again. After this next years average ooc schedule I want to play them,nd,usc, mich and whoever else wants to.

With Julio's recent comments after the allstar game today it has many up in arms about him coming to Alabama. There's no doubt that Julio is a special and rare talent at his position but we might want to keep some things into perspective before any wrist slashing begins to take place.

Championship teams are built from the inside out. The two most important areas on offense are the OL and QB. I think with the present state of our program the most important needs for our team is ensuring we get and develop top notched offensive linemen and qb's. These positions are the foundation of championship teams. I haven't done the research but I'd be willing to bet that there have been more teams that were strong at OL/QB with average to below average wr's that have won championships than teams with average to below average OL/QB's and strong wr's.

You just don't build teams around WR's. Sure, it would be nice to get a great talent like Julio but it will not determine whether we become a championship team or not. Getting or not getting top notch OL'men and QB's will though...

True, but I think we've got the QB and the Olinemen, having skill position players that can take what they do and make it mean something with skill positions is important too. And having gamebreaking talent can be the difference in becoming champs. And we may have that type of talent right now, maybe not, but you've got to have it.

That's my point. We've got commitments from players that feel these VERY IMPORTANT needs so getting Julio is icing on the cake. I don't agree that we "have to have" talent like Julio's at WR to be a championship team. Having wr's that run crisp routes, work hard, block down field, don't drop balls and do the fundamentals will get us where we need to go. We've currently got the wr talent on the team now and considering the verbal commits for 08 to cover what we need at WR. Mike McCoy, Nikita Stover, Earl Alexander, Chris Houston, Melvin Ray, Brandon Gibson & Burton Scott are all players with the physical talent to be above average SEC WR's.

I don't believe not getting Julio is going to hinder or impede our progress one bit.

Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

What were the Julio's comments?

Paraphrasing him but what's been reported on here was he said he wanted to go to a school that ALREADY or maybe CURRENTLY had a freshman or Sophomore QB in place. Some say that means it points to OU since Sam Bradford was only a freshman this season.

Who knows. Personally I'm not much concerned with it. If he comes he comes if he doesn't then so be it. The most important thing is we've recruited guys on the OL, QB, & DL that we can now develop into SEC caliber players. If we do that then with or without Julio we will be well on our way.

Yet OU keeps getting embarrassed in bowl games and can't win the big one during the regular season. They're beginning to fall into the same pattern Texas did for so many years and seem to have slipped back into.
