Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

Not reading too much into Julio's comments...just not much to do and seriously wondering if he meant what he typed in another way regarding the already and currently post.

I agree and I won't jump off any bridges if he doesn't commit but over-analyzing comments and trying to determine where a recruit is going by the number of times they blink during an interview is what keeps me occupied during the dead period.

Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

....... WR. Mike McCoy, Nikita Stover, Earl Alexander, Chris Houston, Melvin Ray, Brandon Gibson & Burton Scott are all players with the physical talent to be above average SEC WR's.

I don't believe not getting Julio is going to hinder or impede our progress one bit.
:conf3: ..... never heard of him .

Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

I wasn't too impressed with Jones. He dropped alot of balls during the game. The commentators said it was very uncharacteristic of him. I'm not saying he is a flop, it's just after recieving as much hype as he has, you would expect more. There are some very good WR's coming out of high school who haven't recieved as much attention. The Jarboe kid was more impressive than Jones. Maybe the DB's have just been a little more focused when facing Jones. Finley laid a pretty good lick on Julio on one incompletion. At first I thought he knocked the ball out but replay showed he had already dropped it before the hit.

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

"I am trying to go somewhere that already has somebody pretty good at quarterback," Jones said. "Someone that is a freshman or a sophomore who will be there with me."

what do you guys make of this? I hope he's referring to Star Jackson!
This quote reminds me of this Edwards quote:

"It's pretty exciting," Edwards said. "I'm ready to get it over with. I would have already had it over with. It feels good to let everybody know where I'm going. Some people are going to be really mad. Some will be really excited."
It gives you a teaser about where he is going. And when I read the quote the first time, I thought was going to be the choice. I wouldn't read too much into JJ comments. That is just a 18 yr old playing with the media and the fans. I still contend JJ will be a Crimson Tide when Nick Saban Day comes, oops....I meant National Signing Day.

Question: What was it that held JJ from playing in the US Army game WITH Star Jackson?

Re: Julios comment after UnderArmor all star game

Yet OU keeps getting embarrassed in bowl games and can't win the big one during the regular season. They're beginning to fall into the same pattern Texas did for so many years and seem to have slipped back into.
And we won a minor bowl game to finish above .500, and still don't know if we have a quarterback on our roster or not.

Disappointing end to OU's season, sure. But they're loaded for next year, and will be ranked in the Top 5 with Georgia, USC, Ohio State and probably Florida.

If JJ chooses Norman, we'll see plenty of reasons that justify the choice.

If he chooses us, the same scenario applies.

It comes down to what a teen-ager wants to do. Scary thought, but all we can do is watch, and take solace that Nick Saban doesn't miss many.

:iagree: Also, Brown looked really good too in SA. Just as good as JJ.

Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

JJ is one of the "special" players available this year. There are only a handful. Losing him would hurt. Also, the team that gets him will be greatly helped. So, if you like our chances of competing for a NC in the next 4 years, we need JJ. He would help lift us up, not someone else.

Simply said, I'd rather compete with him than against him...

On that note, I had heard all week about Jarboe, but was left completely unimpressed by him in the game. What did you see from him? He was maybe victimized by some bad balls, but man, that guy can not separate from a defender...

I think it would be a dang good bonus but to go as far as saying we NEED him to compete for a NC or we won't be able to? That's building a team around a wr and that normally doesn't result in championships.

Re: Julio Jones should not be our biggest concern.

I think this is being over analyzed. Star Jackson will be a Freshman at the same Julio will be a Freshman. Maybe it's possible that is what Julio meant. Either way, I would love to have him and want him to come to Bama, but it is like one coach said before, "Don't worry about the ones you didn't get, you better worry about the ones you got".

Great quote. You remember who said that? Jimmy Johnson has some dang good quotes. As much as I have grown to not like Lou Holtz he as some good ones as well.

Alabama did what they were suppose to do in their bowl game and that was win. OU for the fourth time in a row either gets beat by the under dog they weren't supposed to lose to or gets blown out. In this years case it was both.

When Bama has talent like OU we (as do other SEC powerhouses) don't lose many BCS bowl games or big bowl games (pre BCS). We don't win all the bowls we're in but when we're talented ladened such as OU we usually don't disappoint.

But JJ can go wherever he wants to and if he wants to go out to Norman the by all means go. Alabama football will still go on and CNS's process will continue at full force.

Since he's #1 in the ESPN 150, they probably campaigned very hard for him going to the game ABC/ESPN broadcast (and sponsored via ESPN-U) over one carried on a competing network.
