Why is it that I just get the feeling he was underutilized here, despite breaking most of Alabama's receiving records, winning an NC and SECC? I wish he could come back for another year. I know he could, but realistically he had to go pro.

We'll miss you Julio.

In a sense, I agree.... however, Julio did make a ton of plays for us and at some point other players (Ingram, Richardson, Maze, Hanks and others) have a ton of talent too and you have to get them involved.. I think Julio was invaluable in taking away a lot of the would-be attention those other players would have received and I think we're going to miss him in a lot more ways than one this upcoming season and beyond.
As we all know - he did so much more than just catch passes - he stretched the field, blocked as well as a receiver can and he also was a threat on reverses and punt returns, too.

I was really trying to say that it seems that way because it feels like he only just got here. This has been the quickest 3 years of Alabama football that I can remember. I guess its true that time flies when you're having fun.

You're absolutely correct. His time here did fly by.
I think a few reasons why it seemed to go by so fast - 1) He didn't redshirt 2) He played immediately in his first game against Clemson in '08 and expectations were super super high and each game everybody was waiting for him to explode.
Like you, I wish Julio was here for several more years. Unfortunately for us (and all Bama fans) with the kind of talent Coach Saban and the staff are bringing in year in and year out - the # of three year on campus players and then going to the NFL will be the norm.
See Marcell Dareus, Julio and Mark Ingram for proof.
Also, keep in mind - I think Donta and Mark Barron both would have declared for the NFL draft had they been healthy enough to do so and didn't battle through serious injuries the last two years, respectively.
Looking ahead, I'd expect Trent Richardson and Dre Kirkpatrick to give serious consideration to going pro after this coming season.

Yeah, when we go 36-5 over a three year period, I would definitely say it was a lot of fun. Of course, I am a typical Bama fan, so the loss to Florida in the 2008 SEC Championship game still burns at me. I hate missing opportunities for championships.

I see your point... BUT...

We could have relied on him MORE and had him ended up getting seriously injured and ruining his pro career...

I'm sure Julio is GLAD that we had Mark, Trent, Maze, and Hanks to make plays...

I was only making an expression of his short stay here. I feel the same way about Ingram, Dareus, and others that will go pro early. Rolando McClain as well. It's like we only start to get to know them, and then they are gone. It's the downside of collegiate football, but it's a blessing as well in some ways. We've got a whole new group of playmakers coming up the ranks that we'll get to enjoy watching.

That is awesome and great recognition to both Julio and Bama. I will miss him but look forward to having him on my NFL fantasy league roster for many years to come.

I sure hope Julio can get to a contender. He is a difference maker in so many respects that if I was a team like the Pats, I would try to trade up to get him. He definitely seems like a Belichick kind of player.
