What is the rule,if the ball stays in the end zone untuched my the receiving team?
Is the ball still alive?

If a kickoff reaches the end zone untouched, it's a dead ball.

Ball Dead in End ZoneARTICLE 7. a. When a free kick untouched by Team B touches the ground
on or behind Team B’s goal line, the ball becomes dead and belongs to
Team B.
Team A is kicking team and team B is receiving team.

When did this change?
The ball is live if still in field of play,or not covered by recieving team

I found it interesting that when Bama kicked off against USC, the returners seemed to plant themselves on the goal line and if the ball looked like it was going to land even one yard into the zone, they had no interest in catching or returning it.

I guess they figured the 25 was the best they could hope for.

In college it is a dead ball when it hit the turf in the endzone. In the NFL it is a live ball.

Probably ruled a dead ball in college football because the NCAA is worried about player injuries. There's even debate going on about eliminating kickoffs in college football entirely.
