Earlier (in the VCU-Kansas game) they promoted a special segment on Avery Jukes and some good humanitarian things he apparently did (I am not really aware of the full story). I thought I recognized the name and then it came to me... he is a former Bama guy. He committed as part of Bama's 2006 class. I assume he was a quality basketball player, as well.

Now I see Justin Knox contributing for Carolina against Kentucky.

It's a shame that so many quality basketball players left during the previous regime.

Jukes contributed as a senior on Butler's national runner-up team last year.

Knox left prior to this season. He wasn't run off by the "previous regime."

Avery Jukes was never a major contributor at Bama. He was one of those players that didn't have the talent to play an important role at the SEC level. He was a good role player off the bench at Butler that just happened to have the best game of his career in the biggest game of his career. I blame the ex coach for a lot, but Jukes and the SEC just wasn't a good fit.

Jukes hit a few shots in the tournament last year, but he averaged just over two points a game in his career at Butler.

I don't think Jukes even stayed at Bama for a year. I could be wrong. Regardless, we always had an alarming number of transfers under Gottfried. It seemed like every year at least two or three players would transfer. I don't think this was because they were being pushed too hard. Players I can think of are Jukes, Shawn Taylor, Akini Atkins, Albert Webber, Justin Jonus, Lakory Daniels, Glenn Miles. I think the list goes on. I know most of these players did not amount to much after they left, but it still shows there was a problem to have so many guys leave the program.
