Supposedly our freshman class is the highest rated in history. Hopefully I’m wrong….but have ANY freshman made an impact this year? I know JoJo has a catch or two and sone punt returns and I guess our mediocre punter is a freshman. Anyone else? I can’t ever recall a year where we didn’t have a freshman starter or two, and significant contributions from others in a reserve role.

Freshman report: Which Alabama true freshmen played vs. New Mexico State (247sports.com)

13 freshmen played in the game yesterday.

One freshman was in the starting lineup on defense in linebacker Dallas Turners, while another suffered a significant injury in wide receiver JoJo Earle. After the game, head coach Nick Saban said Earle is going to be out “for a while” after sustaining an injury on a punt return.

Five newcomers have played in all 10 of Alabama’s games this year, while three other players have appeared in more than four games so far.

Dallas Turner has definitely made a major impact and has been starting since sanders got hurt in the ole miss game. Several others have looked good in spot play like jojo kool-aid, Latham, outz and milroe. And wheaton may have seen a lot of playing time if not for hisn injury. With kool-aid he is behind two guys at cb who will play on Sundays in the near distant future.

Remember some of these if not most of these freshman had their senior years cancelled or severely shortened in 2020. Not a surprise some need some polish.

Dallas Turner lined up alonside Will T3RMiNATOR Anderson next year is going to be terrifying for opposing offenses. We just might have all the pieces next year, provided that the injury bug could give us a rest. This year, I thought there would be a bit of a learning curve, and we might just be getting that together, now. Admittedly, we've played some pitiful offenses the past two weeks, but we also kept Mississippi State completely out of the end zone, which is a big win. We had Ole Miss shut out for the better part of the first half, and essentially shut their offense down as well. Tennessee used their playmakers perfectly against us, and it didn't matter. Did the same thing to Georgia, and Bama beat UT by a wider margin.

We aren't very far from being toe to toe with anyone. I just think those miscues in the secondary, at the worst possible times, and inconsistent to poor o-line play, keep us from Championship level, in 2021.
