Legitimate question: Are we overrated???

I have been concerned with this ever since the Florida game. No one is more excited to see BAMA amoung the elite (at least for now) more than I am. But to see us move up during the off-week and now it's probable we'll move up after the FSU loss, it's really got me concerned, especially after our performance against hapless Ole Miss. Teams like USC, Texas and VT would have beaten them 50-0 at least. I just hope we don't hear "OVER-RATED" in BDS come Saturday but I believe we will. Anyone else concerned with this???

I think top 10...

We may hear "overrated" by the Viles during the game, but if everything works out according to my plan (and hopefully the Football Gods' as well) they will be hearing RAMMER JAMMER as they leave the stadium!!

RDT and KILL THE VOLS!!!!

Not really.

Our starters can play with anybody in the country. Especially with the way the O-Line is improving. What we are lacking is depth. We've earned the ranking right now. A couple more key injuries, though, and we're in trouble. If we stay healthy, we have a legitimate shot at winning every game we have left. Of course, we could just as easily lose one or two. With a couple key injuries, we could lose three or four.

Assuming that doesn't happen (the injuries), we should be okay and finish in the Top 10. Ole Miss was just a really flat game against a team that really got up for the game. It happens. But we won, and that's something that we did (won the close ones) in the early to mid 90's that we took for granted. We haven't done much of that the past 5 or 6 years.

I still think we win 13.

Uh...

I'm not sure I understand the problem. At #5, probably so, but it certainly doesn't bother me. There are no penalty points for being overrated... :D

Tennessee fans will be beyond retarded (and that is saying something) if they call us overrated. So far they are -14 in rankings from the preseason to this week. So don't fear hearing that, because they'll look dumb themselves. We should still be ranked above them if the Vomiteers actually do beat us, which won't happen. We'll have one loss (likely close, if anything, given their offense) whereas they'll have two losses, conference losses.

That said, we are not really a Top 5 team in the purest sense, but look at the top 5. USC would tear us a new one, Texas would be a tough match up, and while I think we could handle Vick with our defense, Brodie and the men would have a tough time with VTech. Special Teams with Beamer versus ours is also a plus for them. Georgia is beatable, however, and we should find that out in Atlanta. Enough tape study of Shockley and with our LB's, the QB and TE threats should be tied up. The UGA defense is quite good, but with a little daylight, Darby can burn them.

We are Top 10 material, though. And a big Roll Tide to that!

Against #6-10 on a neutral field we are a toss up or fav against any of them so no, I dont think we are overrated. We have a great chance to prove it Saturday.

I agree with that. You might even go as high as #3 -10. I just don't see Tennessee beating us though. And like someone else stated, I doubt that they would want to start a chant of that nature. It could get ugly, lol! ;)

On the day we beat Florida, we would've stomped USC.

On the day we beat Ole Miss, we would've been the stompee against USC.

I just hope we haven't already played our best football.

To answer your question, our rating is valid, but we've got to prove it on Saturday.

We jumped more places after the FL game than I thought we would.I think that this is a legitimate question considering our loss of Prothro and our struggle with Ole Miss.Much will be answered this Sat. I can't understand why any time someone starts a thread like this, they are instantly labled a whiner, complainer or Barner.arrrrrrrgh

I don't think we are overrated. They always seem to play a bad game after a bye week. Also I think that they were looking ahead to Tennessee. We did not look that impressive against Arkansas and came in and played a great game against Florida.

I can't help but wonder sometimes how many here really are Barners. :D

Did a post get deleted from this thread? I missed the ones where anyone was called a whiner or barner. The closest I saw was the question of complaining about being ranked too high. Seems like mostly rational discussion.

I think a #5 ranking is about right. Of the teams ranked below #5, I think Bama has a better than even chance of beating any of them. I also think they can beat 1-4.

Lets see. We have 1 of the top 5 QB's in the country, 1 of the top 5 RB's, 1 of the top 5 D's. Not sure were our WR's would fall without Pro. and our O-line might not even be a top 25. Let me do the math here 3 5's, 1 dont know, 1 minus 25 and a 6-0= YEP! #5 ranked team.

There's the math. As you can see for yourself it adds up.
