Please let this be true.
Everything I've read about CKD (and I've read and listened to a lot of football people) is he is an X's and O's genius. He attacks defenses at all points and is highly aggressive. I rarely listen to Pat McAfee but I caught a segment on ESPN where he said this was the perfect hire for Bama.

We've seen coaches with a deer in the headlights look (remember CMS), but when CKD stepped up to that mic he was cool, calm and collected, and that was with CNS sitting about 10 feet in front of him!

Knowing CNS's love for the program and doing things the right way, I feel very, very good about CKD's ability to settle into the program.

He's not going to have to coach in the presence of a ghost and that's a big, big deal!

Can't wait to see this team take the field. It's gonna be a long, long off season!

Which is why I find it laughable the UGA fans are "celebrating " this hire. When the offense is installed and settled in, Kirby is going to get torn up.
Look we aren’t going to be as dominant as we were, but if they think that our little meeting in September is going to be a walk in the park then they are in for a rude awakening.

I think people are thinking too much that a step or two down is a fall into the abyss thing. I think we will be very competitive year 1. Maybe not a deep playoff team but who knows.

We have a very good chance at being better offensively next season. Defense is another discussion, but we may actually get better on the offense.

Assuming that Alabama will have the WRs, the offense will almost certainly be MUCH better next year. Even if the D is not as dominant, it will likely be much smarter and perform well at crunch time. At least that has been his history.

He has been my preference for a few days, so I've listened to multiple interviews conducted before his connection to the Alabama job to eliminate any "catering to his audience" - though it turns out I don't think he would do that anyway. He sounded very much like CNS regarding process but with a softer tone and overt love for his kids. This is good for multiple reasons with one major one being that when there is a hard or unpleasant decision on a personal level for a specific player, there is almost no way that the player can complain because it would violate the "team" spirit, also IMO, the player would have confidence that he had gotten a fair shot. IMO, he will choose the right QB who can operate his offense, whereas CNS had to gauge the attitude of the team and go from there. CDB does what is best for the team - ALWAYS.

An aside: In those prior interviews, he was interested in every detail of the program exactly like CNS. He seems to have the mind for it and understands the value of what he calls "alignment", in CNS's vernacular "the whole organization on the same page, from the BOT to the Pres down to the janitor, etc.". Despite his quiet manner, he is really driven, just like CNS.

It's thrilling to read some of the descriptions that others have linked that describe his offense, and how he implements it. Also, though Grubb and Shephard would be great additions, this is his offense, he is still VERY much hands-on, and though he is receptive to anyone and anything, encouraging input, he is dependent on no one. Finally, his assistants love working with him. Hopefully, less turnover.

We got Debor right before his value is about to skyrocket. If he would of had one more big season at UW, he would of been really hard to hire. Kind of like Sark at Texas. Timing is everything and I think we just won the lottery.

Great stuff, thanks for the insight. 👍

Oh, but if you listen to their fans they think UGA will feast on DeBoer's teams.............given time, and players buying into his plan, I think Bama will be pretty dang good going forward...........even the defense might see some innovation

Kirby's defense gets eaten alive by offenses who have the personnel to stretch the the field at all angles, hell, most defenses do. But Kirby doesn't have the dominant DL and LB's he did two years ago and that was evident this season. They are still very good but there's a difference between dominant and very good...

I think we are going to make a huge leap on Offense.

Like something on par with if Sark had called plays for the Freshman version of Tua.

Big coming out party that puts the SEC on notice.
I agree, but the offense this year was bad by Alabama standards. So, yes, it will improve. But Georgia fans are excited because they saw the Washington defense. IMO, this hire only works in the SEC if paired with a great DC. Saban could always keep Alabama competitive with guys like Golding because of his defensive acumen. DeBoer is not that guy.

I can get UGA fans "excitement" on the defensive side. But they need not forget that "the offense bad by Alabama standards" more than handled their defense...
