The math might make sense, but math can't account for stuff like momentum (I know...some people say that momentum isn't real) and although it ultimately didn't matter, that play call completely shifted momentum back to the Lions.
Instead of the pressure being on them to kill the clock or face a game-tying TD by the Bucs, they had an 8 point lead knowing that the Bucs had to not only score a TD but also get a 2pt conversion which they would have just failed to get minutes earlier.
To me it was just dumb...for sure, I could see going for 2 IF we'd been able to win at the end of the game, but that's not an analytics/metrics decision, that's a kill shot call at that stage of the game.
I just think the math geeks have gotten a bit too much into the head of coaches these days.
