Louisiana Monroe Upsets Crimson Tide, 21-14
Alabama couldn't hold an early 7-0 lead over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday, turning the ball over four times in a 21-14 loss to the Warhawks at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The loss drops Alabama's record to 6-5 (4-3 SEC) with one regular season game to go.

"We did all the things in this football game that will get you beat regardless of who you play," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. Alabama took an early 7-0 lead over the Warhawks after taking the opening drive of the game 80 yards in seven plays. On the drive, junior quarterback John Parker Wilson found senior Keith Brown on a screen pass for 35 yards and then found him for a 17-yarder in the end zone for the score. Louisiana-Monroe scored its first touchdown of the game on a one-yard run from tailback Calvin Dawson off an interception return by Quintez Secka, his second of the half to the Alabama 1.

Alabama Shocked By Loss To ULM
Conventional wisdom had it that with Alabama hosting Louisiana-Monroe Saturday, fans would need a program to keep up with who was playing. Surely this would be the rout that would give playing time to down-the-line Crimson Tide players. As it turned out it was the same familiar faces playing the same familiar way it has been for the past few weeks.

The result was one of the most shocking Alabama losses of all time. ULM, one of the middle-of-the-pack teams in the Sun Belt Conference, dominated the line of scrimmage and took advantage of CrimsonTide mistakes for a 21-14 win over Bama in Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday.

What the ... ? ULM 21, Bama 14
Quintez Secka had two interceptions and Louisiana-Monroe turned Alabama away three times on promising scoring drives in the fourth quarter to pull off a 21-14 upset Saturday and send the Crimson Tide to a third consecutive defeat.

The WarHawks, 24½-point underdogs, forced four turnovers and blocked a field goal for their first win over a Southeastern Conference team since 1994 and third in 33 tries.

Louisiana-Monroe (5-6) held firm every time Alabama appeared poised to tie the game.
CECIL HURT: "Pattern in personality" must change in Tide
Some games are lost because of problems in personnel. The University of Alabama has had a couple of those losses this season. But that doesn’t explain Mississippi State, and it sure doesn’t explain Louisiana-Monroe.

Some games are lost because of poor play-calling, which encompasses all the aspects of a game which coaches can control: who is in the game, what plays those choose to run, how they approach a certain situation. There were issues like that on Saturday — there are in all losses — but that doesn’t explain Louisiana-Monroe.

So Nick Saban was asked on Saturday how he does explain Louisiana-Monroe — not just losing to the Warhawks, but how a season that seemed so promising a month ago may now be defined by that loss.

UA defense shaken after home loss
In less than four hours Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Simeon Castille listened to pre-game applause transform into postgame boos.

Castille, along with his fellow seniors, had enjoyed the early-afternoon festivities that included pictures and handshakes with Alabama head coach Nick Saban. But after the Crimson Tide suffered an embarrassing 21-14 loss to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, fans vented their frustrations with a chorus of boos.

“I really can’t blame them,” Castille admitted. “We weren’t playing up to par. Our fans do deserve better than what we were showing them or giving them today. They come out to support us and to see us play good football, and we weren’t playing good football. That’s what happens.”
Alabama passing game continues to sputter
When DJ Hall and Keith Brown glanced at each other on the sideline, they raised their arms and just shook their heads.

The senior receiving duo had no explanation for Alabama’s stunning 21-14 loss to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Instead of a Senior Day celebration for departing players, the Crimson Tide passing attack continued its post-Tennessee woes and misfired with two interceptions against the underdog Warhawks.

Echoing what Chris said in an earlier post, Cecil's column is great and everyone should read it. "Turnover on the roster" is one of the things he mentions as being important to bring about the necessary change to this program, and I agree with him 100%. That will only happen with the passage of time. It cannot happen overnight.

Day of agony
Usually when a senior class celebrates its final home appearance, it’s marked with pride, excitement and inspired play.

Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium was anything but, and could only be described as drab, morose and lifeless.

And that was just the weather.

The University of Alabama football team was even worse, playing flat and unable to overcome its own lackluster performance, resulting in a 21-14 loss Louisiana-Monroe in what has to rank as one of the worst defeats in modern Crimson Tide history.

'Embarrassed'
Saturday began for Alabama with word from the NCAA that five players will be allowed back after a four-game suspension.

It ended with anxiety over what kind of team they're rejoining.

Coach Nick Saban's process has ground to a halt and the Tide is reeling after being blindsided by the most unlikely of visitors. Saturday's stunning 21-14 loss to Louisiana-Monroe, a 25-point underdog, rates among the worst in the history of a once-storied program.
Alabama has a long list of problems
So, just how did Alabama lose to Louisiana-Monroe 21-14 Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium? Let's count the ways:

-- The Crimson Tide committed four turnovers, while the Warhawks -- who were in fourth place in the Sun Belt Conference -- didn't turn the ball over a single time.

-- While it was 6-of-13 on third down and 0-of-2 on fourth down, the Tide didn't make plays (or it committed turnovers) when it needed to make plays. Meanwhile, ULM was 7-of-16 on third down, most of those big gainers that allowed drives to continue and on a couple of occasions led to scores.

Boos reign down on Alabama football team after embarrassing loss to Louisiana-Monroe
The players on the University of Alabama sideline began to head for the locker room before the clock struck 00:00. Most exited without a handshake for the opponent, and all exited with their chins hanging in the dirt.

When the Crimson Tide's humbling 21-14 loss to Louisiana-Monroe became official on Saturday, when the 92,138 at Bryant-Denny Stadium finished booing their team as it fled the field, even those who participated couldn't believe the result.

Sinking Tide: La.-Monroe humbles Alabama
Memphis. Louisiana Tech. Central Florida. Northern Illinois.

Now you can add Louisiana-Monroe to the list.

The Warhawks pulled off the biggest win in their program's history, and dealt Alabama its most embarrassing setback, by beating the error-prone Crimson Tide 21-14 in front of a stunned and silent crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Yes, an unfortunately a recap too. That is it for me, it is over, gone, history, nothing but a bad memory now. On to bigger and hopefully better things, a victory over Auburn. ;)

Crimson Tide First-and-10: A recap of Alabama's loss to ULM
The word of the day Saturday was apathy, and it wasn’t just limited to the players. One could feel it driving through the University of Alabama campus beforehand, with the lack of traffic, far fewer tailgaters than usual, or people congregated around the stadium. The southern end zone stands were bare until right before kickoff and never completely filled up, and there were empty seats scattered throughout most sections.

What does it say when Bryant-Denny Stadium had more people inside it for the A-Day game, than one that actually mattered?
