LSU Fires Athletic Director

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I believe we’re looking at an institution that’s about to go “ALL-IN” on the new landscape of college football…in relation to the focus during the hiring of a president, athletic director, and head coach. All the “proper academic language” will be used during public discussions relating to the search and hiring process of the prez and AD…but behind closed doors it will sound very different.

I think you're right. The Guvnah is now saying that the Louisiana taxpayers will pay Kelly's buyout. I'm not at all sure he can unilaterally do that. While I don't pretend to know the law in Louisiana, it's usually the legislature's job to distribute taxpayer money.

I also fear where you might be going with your concerns, BearFoot....Are we about to see taxpayer money appropriated by whatever means -- legislative action or executive fiat -- to fund collegiate pay-for-play?

We don't normally allow politics onto the Football board. But we're dealing with Louisiana state politics and LSU athletics being so tightly intertwined that it's hard to separate the two.

Let's keep the discussion confined to LSU / Louisiana / Kelly / Woodward / Landry. If it expands beyond that, we'll move to NSPR.

The governor pretty much said that he's going to lead the search instead of the AD anyways...plus he's stacking the entire board of visitors/regents or whatever they're called with loyalists.

Maybe he'll just do away with the entire university administration and run LSU from the governor's mansion?

Maybe he'll name himself president of the school after his current term ends?

Had to look up where the Louisiana governor graduated from.....I assumed it was LSU with him being so involved in this quagmire. Nope, he graduated from Lafayette when it was still SE Louisiana.

I guess since this is their premier state program he's trying to make sure it goes how he wants it. I'm not sure how in the world they are going to hire a good coach though....who is going to want to get in that mess. There are a ton of politics involved in this.

When has having a search committee turned out with an overall successful hire? And this is going into finding a president, an AD, and a coach. What an absolute mess.

One thing this might do is cause Nick Saban to run away screaming.

If he turned down UTw largely because of their boosters' refusal to stop meddling, how would he feel about spending ages 75 - 78 dealing with a maroon like Landry?

This guy makes a freight train carrying a Tomahawk missile look subtle.

I would be flabbergasted if CNS did something that stupid.

The idea that they could lure CNS back with a high salary is a little delusional.

I'm not saying he might not consider another coaching job because I have no way of knowing, but the idea that he would come back to a place where so many people turned on him for $15MM a year or something seriously underestimates the coach's current net worth. And lifestyle. And no dealing with entitled 19-year-old brats and their greedy agents/families. Etc.

Good luck, Governor. It looks like you have a mess on your hands.
