Eli gets in because of his amazing performances in two playoff runs that ended in Superbowl rings. That is the type of thing that always gets guys in, in pretty much every sport.
You're probably right - but it's lame and stupid.
I sure don't see Jim Plunkett in the Hall of Fame.
And he's the same thing:
- a .500 record as a QB
- 2 Super Bowl rings
- both led the league in INT (3 times for Eli, 1 for Jim)
- never led the league in TDs
His other numbers are a reflection of a completely different time (like the fact the passing game wasn't opened up until 1978, when Plunkett had been in the league for 7 years)
Was Eli for any extended period one of the four best QBs in the NFL (top 10%)?
You're not wrong - he's probably going.
But he has no business being there.
"Super Bowls" is a TEAM accomplishment - and yes, I know all the QB arguments.
But many better QBs never won one (Marino, Tarkenton, etc)
