OK, one out of 120 or so guys is unhappy. Seems legit.

In my family of four there's unsually one of us upset about something unless we are eating ice cream or something.

CNS has the ultimate say...if Smith wants to leave he must leave under CNS's terms.

Pretty simple to me.

Not that this is going to happen.

But it could.

What if Maurice Smith can't transfer to Georgia, so eventually he feels forced to play for Bama. And in a big game that has the National Championship hopes on the line, he "accidentally slips" at the wrong time and gives up the winning touchdown.

It's a longshot, but with all the bad blood, and belongings in the trash, you can never say never. I'm not sure Bama should let him on the field at this point.

I'd be surprised if Smith plays for Bama under any circumstances this fall - his claims against the team / coaches will no doubt impact Saban's decision...

Well if you think Kirby is not stoking the fire on this then you need to go read al.com where he is quoted as saying graduate transfers ought to be allowed to transfer anywhere even within the SEC...

Kirby may want to keep his mouth shut since he has not coached his first game and is wanting to change SEC rules which fit his agenda.

And the fact he did the same thing when players tried to transfer to Miami earlier in the year. He blocked transfers of players & it wasn't even within conference. He needs to be consistent in what he says and what he does.

It's not hard to see why Bama fans are annoyed with CKS. He's being, at the least, a little hypocritical. But you have to hand it to him, he's creating buzz for himself that should play well on the recruiting trail.

One thing about this whole situation that bugs me is how ambiguous this so-called "rule" about intra-conference transferring turns out to be. I know there is something in the SEC regulations about this, but the fact that Saban has the power to release MS to go to an SEC school effectively means the so-called rule amounts to nothing but a suggestion. If there is really such a rule in the true sense, then Coach Saban shouldn't have the power to let MS go to UGa and this whole thing should be moot.

Boy you are right about the media. Last night I was watching ESPNU and they had Mark May and a guy named Ed Cunningham talking about this situation. The Cunningham guy was very critical of Saban and portrayed him as some maniacal ogre. I almost threw a shoe into the TV but I turned it off. I totally agree with Coach Saban on this, but I wish he would just say screw it and let him go.

Saban isn't the one blocking the transfer. Alabama isn't the one blocking the transfer. It's an SEC rule. The Chris Black and Maurice Smith situation are completely different. Anyone who cites them as similar doesn't know what they're talking about..

Brass tacks: Smith is a practical starter who wants out in August to follow a former coach. It sets a bad precedent in this transition situation. It screws Alabama over after he accomplished part of the bargain we made with him in exchange for his athletics prowess...right when he will actually derive value for the football program by being a major contributor.

If he made his intent known in the Spring, maybe I'd see it different but he wanted to play the sly game and graduate in August then hoodwink the staff who expected him to be a major contributor. I don't really feel sorry for him. I don't really care what the media thinks. I'm an Alabama football fan and he's screwing Alabama football. I want things to be better for the kids but when you act in a shady fashion I'm not going to stump for your cause.

It's real easy to say yes to something that would benefit his football program, but, he sings a different tune when the same situation happens to him & he has to say no..The media will rip Kirby a new one when it happens..

It almost makes you wonder if it was his idea or if some collusion/tampering form former coaches was involved.
