Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

May Jim McElwain and Florida curb stomp Kirby Smart and Georgia every year. Bitter? You bet I am. Not one word from the SEC office of that coach tampering with our players, not one.
Yeah, the tampering issue has been curiously unremarked upon by ANYONE in the media. Mods, do you know something about this that we don't?

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

I don't see it being that big of a deal, sure he's going to Georgia, the chances of us playing them this year is slim. I may eat my words later.

It's not about us playing UGA or not. Many in the media wanted to act like it was, but it wasn't.

Will Smith start at Georgia? He may find himself in the same situation he was in at Bama or worse. Nothing is guaranteed.

Having said that, he did give us three years and is probably a good kid with a helicopter mom problem.

The sad thing about this situation is now Smith can set a good example for all the others that will be doing this in the future for all the right reasons, but my gut tells me he takes 12 hours of basket weaving classes this fall and does not enroll during the spring so he can concentrate on getting ready for the draft.

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

Not sour grapes, but I remember Maurice Smith also getting beat by many a receiver over the years. That's a big reason that he is not an every down DB/safety.

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

These are good points. He is not a great player. Not an impact, but role player (a good one.) He probably worried about snaps and saw an opportunity with coaches he knew well that probably encouraged him. It has worked out; we will see if he benefits, but he will not play pro and he blew his Bama cred, so he better do something memorable at Georgia to make it worth it because he is a dawg forever now. now.QUOTE=popems;2854329]Will Smith start at Georgia? I think this will all come back to bite Kirby on the behind, especially when MO doesn't fulfill his part of the 'conditional' release. This reminds me of the little league mom who whines to the coach about their little wimpy kid not getting to play.

I think he got beat during the Bama/LSU game last season that resulted in a long touchdown.

That's exactly the case here.

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

There will be pressure on all involved with Maurice's advancement through his graduate program including professors. Graduate program professors are usually less influenced to give passing grades. I suspect in the winter Smith will leave UGA high and dry if he gets a tryout with an NFL team or gets invited to the combine. It has not really been mentioned but based on the conditions of the waiver set forth by the SEC that it will be next to impossible for Smith to get Master's degree in the fall semester prior to NFL draft season. Accepting this transfer Smith has basically handicapped his opportunity to enter the draft in January and will have exhausted his eligibility. I dont know of any master's degree that can be obtained with only 9 hours of coursework. I am sure CNS probably explained all this to Smith and his parents. But some times you cant fix stupid.

This is really a dumb move on the part of Smart to encourage this move. His initial season at Georgia is a throw away season. He will likely need access to graduate transfers in the following years when wins will become a premium. He gave up a lot to bring Smith in.

The SEC's conditions give him until the spring semester of the 2018-2019 school year to get his MPH from UGa, a degree that requires 44 credit hours, or 3 semesters even if he only carries 12 (the minimum for full-time status at UGa) this fall. Even if he takes a full year completely off after the fall semester (spring to prepare for the draft, summer to prepare for his rookie season, fall for the season), that still leaves him two springs and summer to complete two semesters of work to get his degree in a program for which, as we all know, he has clearly and passionately stated his desire

That said, as far as I can tell, the player is in no way sanctioned if he goes "one and done" (how could he be, once his eligibility expires?), so all the risk resides with Kirby Smart and UGa.

Did mo not have a crucial penalty in the Ohio state game?

Re: Maurice Smith Transferring; Alabama Grants Release, Up to SEC to Clear [UPDATED]

I'm like the rest of y'all & am glad Coach Saban passed this problem on to Kirby, make no mistake about it, if Maurice doesn't become a starter at Georgia his Mom will hit the "Media Parade" once again moaning n groaning about her boy not being handed a starting job or when he doesn't get a starters PT & snaps in the regular season..

I hope Kirby & The Pup Nation enjoys what's bout to come their way..My Papa always told me often growing up "What Comes Around Goes Around"..That's a hard lesson Kirby & The Pup Nation will soon learn all about..

My question to this is: Will uga have to keep him on scholarship during the time he is completing his graduate degree after this season?
