Bama Game Thread: MBB Bama at Auburn - 1.8 1:30 CST ESPN

Will that player from the school down the road be suspended for his forearm to the back of Youngblood’s neck? What are the sec rules?
He'd already earned F2 with that face slap, which, IMO, was completely intentional. I think the refs, even Shows, had him on a short chain...

I caught a little of Pearl’s post game presser. I wanted to hear him whine. I was shocked he didn’t start out crying. He went a few minutes being upstanding and honest. Then it started. Whined that Broome shot so many shots in the paint and didn’t get free throws. Like just because he was in the paint when he shot, he’s supposed to automatically get FT’s too. Almost like the refs were supposed to create fouls so he could get freebies too.

It’s a pretty well known thing that Broome doesn’t get the whistle a lot of other players do. He does have a beef. You’ll see him get pushed frequently on shots and not get a call a lot of other players would get.

At the same time I often wish he’d just play through contact then turn around and play defense. His proclivity for jawing at the refs probably makes them less likely to give him calls.

Been reading media commentary on Baker-Mazzara's flagrant 2 foul and ejection. It's unanimous and adamant.

He did this last year against Yale, and now against us. Apparently, a number of other fouls have also been reviewed for upgrade to flagrant 1 or 2. IOW, he now has a reputation as a dirty player.

Expect the refs to have him on a really short leash during both the SEC and NCAA tournaments. He's painted a target on his own back.

He shoots fadeaways and 6 footers. And a few uncontested dunks. How many contested shots did he take?

Part of the reason for the Yale ejection is because he already had a reputation last year. Yale actually baited him into it.

He made a stupid, selfish decision and this is not the first time. Hopefully it’ll be the last.

And if I’m an opposing coach I’m going to find a way to needle him into reacting. At the least you get him thinking about something other than the game, at the most you make him get tossed.

I’m hoping that’s a rhetorical question. I didn’t watch. I knew my blood pressure couldn’t take it.

Under the basket is his typical game. You’ll see a lot of back downs and turnarounds. One that stood out in particular was at 18-10 he made a basket while Aiden was quite obviously shoving him. Another one a few minutes later Grant’s defense on a made basket could have reasonably been called a foul.

Of course, he balked at Shows, which makes it less likely he’d get the call going forward. So part of it is on him.

Just thinking back to some of the comments about CKD’s game day attire, I think it’s a lot better than what Pearl don’s at au. Is it just me or does he look like he’s at a 55 and over bowling league event?
They both can take some style tips from Nate anytime.

When it comes to Broome, I see a talented player who has to talk as well. He gets off the bus talking trash and talks trash to himself through the post-game shower. Maybe the bad guy persona is what fires him up to be his best, but if he says half the stuff the camera catches when it’s not on him, it’s absolutely realistic to think refs simply don’t like him, and swallowing a whistle is a real thing. Sometimes, “playing the game” doesn’t have anything to do with physical moves/ability.

I’ve respected many Auburn athletes before, but he and Mazarra are incredibly easy to dislike. There are 8-10 other teams capable of knocking Auburn out of the tournament, and yet those guys’ mental challenges may be their biggest obstacle of all.

I agree with a previous poster. If you look at DSM-5 TR, Baker-Mazzara’s photo should be included under Bipolar Disorder. This guy has issues.
And Barbecue Bruce doesn’t care. He only cares about what he does on the court, production wise. Bruce doesn’t care one bit about what becomes of him afterwards.

I mean on the flip side you have Philon get ran over on a made layup then he gets laid on and they swallowed whistles but sure broom got slighted because he had a tiny shove. Good thing we didn’t do anything crazy like throw an elbow into the back of his head he might’ve got hurt…

or smack him in the face and draw blood and he has to wear a patch above his eye the rest of the game.

Yep Bruce enables CBM’s dirty play. No other way around him not being on the bench after his antics. The thing is if he did it once and the coach corrected it then shouldn’t happen again. If it does keep happening and the coach still plays said player then the coach is obviously fine with said outburst. Live by the sword die by the sword.
Another thing Bruce wants to make the games muddy and physical. You hear it in his pre game speeches telling the team it’s a big game and they’re not going to call the fouls essentially telling them to go play thug ball the refs are going to allow it.

Auburn (and UT's) style of play will be a disadvantage imo in the NCAAT. They will see officials they haven't seen all year and those officials may not respond well to all the jawing and yelling from CBP, CBM, and JH.

They need to shut their mouth and just play ball.
