I caught the highlights after getting home from my HS’s Area championship game (man that was wild, standing room only, 2 pep bands, I am hoarse and my hearing is still muffled this morning). How did Bethea play?

I started watching on DVR about 9:00. Fell asleep by the end of the game, but it was after we went up 10-15 points, so I relaxed.

Any SEC win on the road is a good win. But we better be glad we weren't playing an upper echelon SEC team last night or else we would have been so far behind in the 1st 10 minutes that we probably couldn't have recovered.

Thankfully, we got hot from 3 to pull even at the end of the 1st and continue that into the second half. If not, this would have been too close for comfort.

Glad Trelly got hot and poured in 21!
Good to see Bethea get some more minutes...but his defense is spotty...real spotty.

So what do y'all think about CNO's playing grouping in this one?

At several intervals, we were playing 3-4 guards with either Sherrell, Bol Bowen or Williamson at 5.

At one time, we had TBB in with 4 guards. Bol Bowen isn't the answer at 5 nor is Williamson. It's going to be more obvious than ever that we needed Beds for an SEC title run and any Dance run.

I hope Sherrell can play smart and strong because we are going to need him to play 30 minutes or more a game down the stretch. If we lose him to injury or foul trouble, it'll take hot 3 point shooting to win every game.

Great to win. Roll tide. Roster has a glaring issue on the inside though only having Sherrell though. Bama is a good team and should be a dangerous tourney team with having older guards. Hopefully Bowen starts playing better, been a non factor since early pre season but showed some fire this game at least.

Had to watch on replay last night... like everyone said, we had a SLOW start. I don't think that was totally unexpected though, given they're adjusting to life without CB. Although Williamson is not the answer, I don't know how we're going to really fill in without him playing some minutes each game. On defense, our rebounding is going to suffer until we learn to block out - and we saw that last night.

On the flip side, there were some good adjustments. We made adjustments at halftime and got much better offensive play in the second half. Oats promptly removed Philon from the game when he committed one of those lackadaisical turnovers... much better ball movement... and the right guys taking shots. The last idea to me is a key to future success. When a guy is hot, you've got to find him as much as possible in the offense. I know in theory any of our guys can fill it up from beyond the arc, but some guys just aren't hot on a given night - see Mallette last night. The guys on the court did a good job in finding Trelly/Holloway/Allen in the second half and that made a difference. Good road win... keep notching more in the win column. RTR

Wondering if Bowen isn't going to end up being the key determinant in how deep we can go in March. He's played more aggressively since Bediako's arrival.

I think CNO was experimenting last night with the rotations. Against teams like Ole Miss, I expect that we'll be able to get away playing with a small lineup with one of our 6'11"/7'0" guys at the 5. And if we can play guys with the hot hand among the 3 guards, that may be our best strategy.

Yeah, worked against OM.

Just wondering what we do against UT or UF.

Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t think he has and mostly been MIA. Partly due to injury but even last night it was basically only the one tie up and other than that nothing.

Granted, it's been in spurts most games... though against Missouri he had 10 boards and then he got hurt against Florida. There was a point in Grant Nelson's first year with us that it seemed he realized that we had to have him play tougher... and he responded well to it. Hoping we'll see that from him.

I liked the fight he showed last night on some of those loose balls, but let's face it: He's not strong enough to be much of a force in the paint

But what he could give us is more scrapiness in the paint and he's started to show some of that.

If he could give us a few more boards and blocks a game and warm up from 3 it will be a much needed impact.

I'd gladly take door number one from both Sherrill and Bowen. We've got the guys to take the treys. Going to be interesting to see the development from both. Saw a note from someone about Sherrill about his FT shooting in SEC games... it's some ridiculous number like 43 of 48. Crazy good.

Did everyone notice how vs Auburn we stayed on one side or the other because Auburn was deflecting cross court passes early?

And last night we through more cross-court passes than I've seen in the last 5 games combined, because Ole Miss was over playing on the sides, and then collapsing for backside rebounding?

Nate Oats at his very best in reading the scouting reports and how our offense best fits within their defensive scheme. Loved it.

You have to challenge UT and UG with drives to the paint with goal of drawing contact and getting them in the bonus early. A missed shot at the goal counts the same as a missed shot on the perimeter. We would drive halfway down the lane then trying to kickout. Missed the perimeter shot and missed the opportunity for a contested shot or foul in the lane.

Not disagreeing cause it is a part of what CNO wants to do, but that game plan brings "officiating" into consideration.

And it always seems like when we play teams that rely on physicality, the referees call those games more loosely, which benefits their aggression and roughness. And, if we drive and don't draw the foul, we are back to square one of "now what?"

It reminds me of how football refs (before some rule changes) used to cater to the offenses that wanted to go fast. Suddenly, the refs do the bidding of the coach on the sideline (picture Gus Malzahn rolling his hands as if to say "hurry up") and the refs rushed to mark the ball to allow the offense to snap the ball before the defense could even set up.
