Tennessee guards the perimeter as well as any team i have seen. Barnes makes us play his pace.
If we didnt have Bediako tonight, we probably lose that game by 20 on our own court.
Our new bigs have not panned out.
A lot of that was because we were missing two guys who score 30 points a game combined in Holloway and Allen. We were just very limited with offensive options, especially coming down the stretch.73 points at home. Terrible
Have to wonder if the distractions cost us this one.
Everything seemed a little off tonight. As much as CB helped tonight he was also a distraction for both teams in the first half. I think our team just thought having him on the floor was going to win it for us. Tennessee made some good adjustments at the half to take CB out of the game on offense.Tenneseee style of play dictated the game as it usually does with us. That actually means nothing because we still couldn’t get a stop or play good solid meaningful defense for the majority of the game.
I didnt understand Oats’ rotation either this game.
Like I said we have no home court advantage.
In a nutshell! Ament reminds me of Brandon Miller, but maybe even better finishing in traffic! At least he'll only be around 1 year! We tried multiple guys on him, but he's just too good and it was obvious he was having a hot night. We have no one that can guard Ament. And we’re leaving way too many points at the FT line.
When 3s don't fall (or we can't even get them off), our offense is Philon going 1 on 5. Kid is very good, by MJ couldn't beat teams 1 on 5.Too much hero ball and lousy adjustments
Did you watch how the Barn defended UF? I've never seen such hacking that went uncalled! The game has been out of hand for years. It's football on hardwood. It's embarrassing when the refs allow BB to be thugball. UT should have had multiple guys foul out with ten minutes to go in the game... but the zebras lacked the courage to call the game evenly. I don't fault UT... I'd tell my guys keep doing it and more as long as they don't call it. In addition to the things that are mentioned here, I think we see how important Allen is to this team. Along with Philon, he's the guy who can successfully slash to the basket against bigs like UT has.
As far as the shooting goes, UT intentionally guarded the perimeter and challenged us to slash to the basket. It's been a kryptonite for us over the past few years... shooters need room and you've got to be able to finish at the rim to get teams out of that game plan. All in all, it was a good effort from our guys and in a normally called game, we walk away with a W with two of our most important guys out.
Also, the foul trouble with Jemison didn't help. He played 8 minutes and picked up 4 fouls. Then Sherrell has to sit with fouls also. So really really shorthanded tonight. All the talk was about Bed's coming back, but the real issue is we REALLY missed Allen and Holloway...close to 30 points a game and Allen is our best rebounder!
And I have a feeling Allen would have been assigned to Ament. He would have still got points, but probably not as many otherwise!
I saw very little hero ball. Just because you don’t score it doesn’t mean it is hero ball. They had some good ball movement and kick outs to open players for 3’s unfortunately with two main scorers out the guys taking the shots were Bol Bowen, Williamson, Bethea who shot a combined 1-10 from 3. You had only 2 players in Philon and Wrightsel who can create and even Wrightsel is a better number 4-5 option than a creator.Too much hero ball and lousy adjustments
At some point you have to accept basketball has changed and the officials are not going to call every little foul. The game is now drive to the basket as an offensive player and look for contact which there will be some when your driving into guys chest. There is no longer teams that play zone and you work the ball around the zone and find the open spot for a jumper, that just isn’t how it the game is played. People get upset the refs let them play but if you don’t your going to be watching walks playing each other the last 5 minutes of the game. The players and coaches have accepted that and no contact is a part of the game today. It's embarrassing when the refs allow BB to be thugball. Williamson rarely if ever makes a 3. Very frustratingI saw very little hero ball. Just because you don’t score it doesn’t mean it is hero ball. Williamson rarely if ever does anything but occupy a spot on the floor. I argue we would be more effective playing 4 on 5 than having him on the floor.Williamson rarely if ever makes a 3. Very frustrating
Really!I saw very little hero ball. Just because you don’t score it doesn’t mean it is hero ball. Also, #15 should not be on the court and he definitely shouldn't be jacking up 3sReally!
Look at how many possessions #0 dribbled around the entire time then took the shot. Now, he makes a lot because he is good. But, that is hero ball and your team usually doesn't win because 1 won't outscore 5. Notice everyone else just standing around outside and we don't even get rebounds. The best offense was when he penetrated and kicked. But not enough
This is different from isolation plays which TN did until we adjusted (way too late). 1 on 1 where you see an advantage with your 6'10" guy against there 6'3" defender for 10' shots
AND, Tennessee was uncharacteristically hot from three. I haven't checked the stats; that was just my gut impression. Maybe I'm wrong? All the talk was about Bed's coming back, but the real issue is we REALLY missed Allen and Holloway...close to 30 points a game and Allen is our best rebounder!
And I have a feeling Allen would have been assigned to Ament. He would have still got points, but probably not as many otherwise!
Edit: I'll say again, this game and UF, with all the other issues, you can probably attribute to free-throw shooting. I don't know what's going on there, but it's cost us this game and the Texas game and it makes a lot of our other games closer than necessary.
I fully accept it IF the refs call it consistently both ways. They didn’t last night - not even close! At some point you have to accept basketball has changed and the officials are not going to call every little foul.
