Could someone explain the clock to me. We go to inbound the ball with 2.6 on the game clock. After the 5 second call, the clock showed 3.8. Where did the extra 1.2 seconds come from. The announcers never mentioned it.

Welp, saw the Hail Mary drop, wasn’t surprised in the least. Disconnected and spent some time with the 3YO Grandson after the wife reminded me to watch my language. Missed FT’s and lack of adjustment to the inbound pressure at the end was the killer. I simply do not understand, with all the shooters we have, how our FT% is so poor at times. Still a very good team but really frustrating to watch sometimes.

True, but two of the losses were at home. One in which we never led and one was Ole Miss!
And the one win was against a team missing their best player (Taylor for A&M). Think it’s critical that we beat Florida this week to show we can beat a great team. Bama can be great when we’re on but I just don’t think this version is elite. Hope they prove me wrong.

And I’m glad to see Oats owned his mistakes after the game.

I know there are probably dozens of plays in the course of a basketball game that you can consider pivotal. Three situations in that first half stick in my craw.

First, an inbound play under our basket where the shot clock hadn’t reset and we have 3.5 seconds to shoot. How is there no communication by the guys on the floor, or the coaching staff for that matter, about the shot clock situation? Second, we score with about four seconds to go in the half. UT not only goes the length of the floor against our “wave at him as he passes by defense” for a layup, we foul
the guy for a three point play. Finally, the official makes the horrendous “continuation” play call where the UT player was fouled on the floor before the shot, they give him the basket and the “and one”. Hell, I’m not even sure the guy was in the act of shooting when he was fouled.

And that was just in the first half. Make a few of the chippy layups we missed, and hit half the free throws we missed and it is a double digit lead at half.

Horrible play at the end of the first half, pure laziness.
Horrific free throw shooting.
Not blocking out on defensive free throws.
Philon did not need the ball in his hands at the end of regulation.
Nelson rebounds well but can’t guard one on one and commits stupid fouls.
Holloway plays terrible defense and commits stupid fouls.
Where was Cliff?

This is an example of why football fans frustrate the hell out of me.

If all you’re going to do is come and be negative, what’s the point of participating?

I get being frustrated But if all you’re going to do is rant about the players, just stay out of the threads.

I’m all for the occasional frustration and even the occasional complaint.

This is probably the best team we’ve ever had. Time will tell us if that’s true. And yes for all of you that remember Alabama basketball in the 70s and 80s, this team would absolutely destroy any of those teams

Go back and look at those field goal percentages. Leon Douglas was one of the worst free throw shooters in the history of college basketball. Yet we remember him as this Godlike creature.

my favorite team was probably 86-87. Or some of the Earnest Shelton teams of the early 2000s. But even those teams would be destroyed by this one.

Different time different place

We had the hardest schedule in college basketball Some people are saying it might’ve been the hardest schedule in the history of college basketball

Our percentages are amazing. And as much as we complain about defense, we are now considered a top 30 defense.

Above is a good side if you wanna go back and review some of those elite teams we had. They would make good comparisons to who we are now.

I love those teams as well. But we’ve gotta lay off a little bit on these kids. They are better shooters, play better defense, shoot better free throws. Against much harder competition.

And by the way for everyone, yesterday before the game Torvik had Bama five and Tennessee six. After the game, nothing changed.

And it’s because we lost a close game in their gym and had one of the best defensive performances of the season

The regular season isn’t about wins and losses as much as it’s about strength and points per possession

That loss hurt us zero at this point the SEC tournament doesn’t mean anything either we will be a 1 or 2 seed. Last year we were a four.

Yesterday was frustrating a combination of bad coaching decisions, and horrible officiating.

Free throws hardest yes, but on the flipside Tennessee missed a bunch as well. It was probably a little bit negative in our favor, but Tennessee missed some. They should’ve made as well.

This team can beat anyone but we are inconsistent and frequently go cold shooting the ball and making dumb mistakes. We seemingly have cleaned some of that up recently but just enough of that occurred yesterday to cause us to lose a game we should have won. We very well could mirror last years team and close out the season with some bad losses, lose early in the SEC tourney if we draw a bad matchup and/or have a bad game but then after getting some rest, come out smoking in the big dance and make another run. I think we're better overall than we were last year but so are several SEC teams which is both good and bad.

I wear my crimson colored glasses a lot but sometimes I do take them off to be objective about my beloved team. This team was over-hyped in the preseason and I said back then that CNO should tone down the rhetoric a bit. It's great to be confident in yourself and your team but over the years of observing some great football and basketball coaches, it is my OPINION that coaches should go into every season trying to manage expectations, not playing them up.

I'm not being a debbie downer and I'm not deserting my team. I'll be watching and cheering every game until the season ends. My hope is that we have yet to play our best basketball and that we will put it all together between now and the start of the big dance and IF they do that then they are going to be fun to watch and a team that no one will want to see on their side of the bracket.

Our guys played REALLY hard against a top 5 team in a REALLY tough environment. We played well enough to win for 19:56 of each half. Tough way to lose; but have to be impressed with the effort. Bodes well for the rest of the season if Coach can build on the positives.

We will get better officiating in the NCAAT which usually favors guard play. I think our style of play is more conducive to a deeper run. But the big arenas are harder to shoot in.

I appreciate you saying this. Sometimes I am watching and get frustrated with this or that but that is basketball. There are lot of moving pieces and there are very few perfect games. When you say this to the football fans, it helps me relax after one of these losses and just enjoy the ride.
