MDB Feedback.

It was pretty good! Still think the band was much better when Katherine Scott was the director, though....

I sat in the north endzone and thought the sound during half time was really really good. However, I don't think people will ever stop missing the wow factor of a Katherine Scott show. I just think in order to grab the attention of 92K people, you've got to do more than sound good. You've got to LOOK good by providing interesting visuals. Ms. Scott understood that and delivered week after week.

Very good show, though. I thought the bass (was there a bass guitar in the pit?) sounded incredible with the band. Overall, musically, I thought the show was sharp and on point. Good job.

Yes, I totally agree with what you just said. When it comes to playing the music and the sound of the band, it is as good as its ever been. But the shows in general just don't have the wow factor that Katherine Scott put into them. The band did do a good job though. They'll continue to get my support.

Love the pep music as usual, but also, I wasn't terribly impressed with the field work during the halftime show. Then again, it's hard to pay attention because they play towards the press box, and the students are the other way, so this isn't necessarily their fault.

I thought the sound was great (both on the field and in the stands) and the drill looked good as far as execution. He stresses perfection in both these areas which is a good thing.

However, the drill and music selections were boring and about as thrilling as watching a metronome- hence the reaction (or lack thereof) from the crowd.

When will Dr. Ozello realize that in his quest to be the antithesis of Ms. Scott and his refusal to do anything visually stimulating (also known in the drum corp/band contest world as 'GE' (general effect), that his shows will continue to get this poor reaction from the crowd.

The usual reaction when anyone mentions this is that 'we don't do fireworks'. You don't have to do 'fireworks', but if you want any kind of reaction from the crowd you must capture their attention and keep it.

By the way, in the past few years I did not voice my displeasure with the music/drill selections in hopes that it would get better. Unfortunately, it didn't last night.

I am a proud supporter of the Million Dollar Band and am a member of the Million Dollar Band Association. I know firsthand the dedication and sacrifice that it takes.

My only complaint and it's one that I am considering notifying the University about, is from the south-end of the Upper Deck it is very difficult to read the yard and down to go infomation as well as other minor data on the two new jumbo-trons in the North Endzone. We had to refer to old score board in the South Endzone for that kind of information becasue it was too small on the new ones.

I had heard that new ribbons were to be used decibel meters as they are in some pro and other college stadiums. I was disappointed they were not, but not complaining.

Well, as one of 10,000 people sitting in the east upper deck, I am going to gripe by saying I can rarely hear a single note when the band is in the stands. I really wish they would go back to the corner wedge where fewer fans will be excluded from enjoying the MDB, which is one of the highlights of being at the game in person.

I do love the MDB (have friends and family as band alumni), BUT I also think our pregame show pales in comparison to that of LSU or UT. With a great fight song like YA, I think it could be so much more. I got to see the UT pregame at Neyland in 2002 and LSU's at last year's Peach Bowl and was blown away by both. However, again, I love the MDB and the way it represents UA.

I think I did see the noise meter near the end of the game during Hawaii's final drive. It was not entirely obvious, but there were green-->yellow-->red graphics and on either end a numeral. It was at "8" when I saw it. Again, not sure.

The white banners on the trombone slides are hideous. They have to go.

Way too many marimbas, xylophones and glockenspiels. Lose them. Replace with more brass and real drums.

I know they have that capability, but there really wasn't any purpose for them to be used Saturday, as the dB level was pathetic other than during the "Ala-bama" cheer...it would've been embarassing...

The slide covers ROCK and they get you guys on TV more too. As far as the halftime show, everything that the band members did, they did with excellence. However, the choice of music by the band leadership was very poor. The show would have scored great at a band competition, but that's not what the MDB is striving for is it? I would love for all the hard work that the band members put in on the practice field to be fully appreciated by the crowd. But for the dedicated MDB members to get the full support of the BDS crowd, the director's should make better music selections. Keep up the good work MDB members! Open your eyes MDB directors!

Please note that getting rid of the pit would do nothing to increase numbers of other sections. Unlike some bands, the MDB does not have a set number of musicians in the band. The pit is a great addition to the MDB and I would not want to deny those students the chance to be in the band.

I'd like to see the Drum line cut loose every once in a while (a la Grambling, Alabama St.)..

I just enjoy a good beat, and like to see the band break it down every once in a while.

However, I expect the majority of the crowd would not appreciate as much as I would.

I noticed that the band grouped together outside the tunnels this time, as opposed to coming out of both of the south tunnels. Was that due to the fact that there were so many past football players everywhere or will the band come out of the south (or north) endzone the same way they did last year.

The music was similar to last year, I liked it b/c it has a nice beat.
