I'm watching the circus for this one unfold outside my window. I work in downtown Richmond about a block down from the federal court where Vick will be arraigned tomorrow. The media trucks were already here early this morning and have been steadily pouring in throughout the day. They are already closing off streets. 1000's of protesters are expected, including PETA.

Should make for an interesting day tomorrow.

I think you're right in that there has to be some level of wait and see. Many on the news keep pointing to the Duke Lacrosse case as a case reference. IF Vick beats the rap, but was fired, he and his highly paid legal team will take no prisoners.

My take: We are about to see just how tight Mike and his "crew" really are. Will one of his boys go to prison to save him? I say they all turn on him like ... caged dogs. The fact that there is an indictment indicates they already are doing so and are ready to squeal.

did you not read the post? i said i did not believe vick was innocent. i was just stating what i thought about why the nfl and the falcons haven't kicked vick off the team and out of the nfl. next time read the whole post before taking a shot at me. you basically called me stupid and delusional.

what i do think is there is some remote chance (very remote) that he may not have participated in the dogfighting but he did know about it. even if there are witnesses keep something in mind people lie everyday.
Yeah, I read your post, but you continue to try to hang on to the theory that Vick is only marginally involved in this sorry mess. That's pretty naive. Do you really think the Feds have been so remarkably stupid as to spend all that time and money on a case teetering on circumstantial evidence? Haven't you read or heard that there are videos and eyewitness accounts of him attending these fights in several different states and betting big bucks on them? His relatives living in the house are said to be unemployed, yet there has been a lot of money spent to set up the place for dog breeding and dog training. The house reportedly has an elaborate entertainment sytem in it complete with a $15,000.00 sofa, pretty high living for folks who aren't gainfully employed. Besides all the other evidence, it becomes plainly clear that Michael Vick is the only one in the picture with the financial means to bankroll this sleazy operation. I don't see how you can continue to believe that MV is somehow only casually involved.

I never once said that i believed he was only marginally involved. i did say there is a "very remote" chance that he was only marginally involved. and my point had nothing to do with his guilt but why i thought the nfl was in a wait and see mode. just posing a giant what if question so you misinterpreted what i said and then starting calling me naive and indicated i beleived in fictional characters. again in case you missed it I DO NOT THINK VICK IS INNOCENT!!!!

something occurred to me last night about this. i think i know why the nfl and falcons are not so quick to throw vick out. keep in mind i think vick did at least know about the dogfighting. what if the nfl kicks vick out (as most of you seem to be so fired up to do) and then it goes to trial and we find out that everyone is lying and vick is innocent. now the nfl has wrongflluy fired someone and have left themselves open for a huge lawsuite (wrongfull termination and defamation of character). i think they are just trying to protect themselves legally and will wait for the outcome of the trial to pass judgement. again i don't believe vick is completely innocent.
Found innocent of what? He can't be found innocent of having a dog fighting ring and dead dogs on his property. The structures and bodies are there and that can't be argued. That in and of itself is enough to give the NFL cause to give him the boot. Even if he is found innocent, he's put himself in the predicament of being damaged goods much like the Victoria's Secret Supermodel who gets fired for spending too much time at McDonald's.

I think the NFL is waiting to see just how bad things get so they can hand out the most extreme penalty applicable with one resounding "thud" instead of a suspension followed by a second penalty when/if he's found guilty. I think they want to send a message and put the players on notice.

Of course the cynic in me half-heartedly allows that the NFL could be poising itself to hand down a lighter suspension by allowing time for the public fury to subside. Vick may be lacking in the morality department but his return to the NFL would draw a lot of viewers and media coverage even if they did all watch in the hopes he would go down hard. The NFL... the next great reality TV series. :biggrin2: I doubt it though.

BTW, it's important to remember that criminal juries never find anyone "innocent." The accused is found either "guilty" or "not guilty." Although it might not seem so at a glance, there is a hell of a difference. "Beyond the shadow of a reasonable doubt" is something juries really do pay attention to. The NFL is biding its time to hammer Vick. You have a Barry Bonds, swelled up like some obscene toad about to beat Hammering Hank's record. You have a genuine jerk of a ref in the NBA, for whom the odds are 32,000 to 1 that he fixed games. Pro sports can't afford a Vick at this point. Quote - "The only important thing is I win games." (Paraphrase mine.)

Deion Sanders: I Believe Michael Vick Had a Passion for Dog Fighting

"I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It's like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn't tap out when he knows he can't win."

Since the indictment, that's Deion, Emmitt and of course Iverson and each one says a bit more than the one before. Will the professional jock who thinks dogfighting is wrong please stand up?
