I'm not sure we'd expect him to be able to do it all. But he for sure has to show evidence of progress or else you get the same kind of results this year: domination against inferior defenses but struggles aginst those who can scheme his shortcomings.

The other question now might be does Jalen improve but get passed up by a younger guy (who already has a head start on a lot of JM's weaknesses) improving at an even greater speed?

I totally agree which is why I hope there is TRULY an OPEN qb competition. The team (if some things happened that was reported as happening) needs to do some soul searching and ask if they want a friend to try to play qb or if they want a guy back there who can actually play qb.

Wonder if this guy is doing any one on one coaching? Heard he was pretty good back in the day and very accurate . Could throw that old pigskin a quarter mile…

From a college perspective only, give me a Mac Jones all day and twice on Sunday's. Dude was a surgeon on the field, highly efficient and didn't have to worry about many bad decisions.

Interesting that you say that. My son (an Aubie) made a similar statement on Monday that our offense reminded him of the 2013 Nick Marshall offense at Auburn.

I asked him “How?” He said the offense was run by a similar QB (with the exception Marshall was probably more “quick twitch” while JM is more flat out fast) in that both were limited in executing the “full Monty” of skills deemed necessary to play QB, but possessed the big play ability enough to win games.

My wife actually asked me how the offensive line managed to play so well against Georgia. I watched that game 4 times. Thinking back, I am not sure that the Alabama offensive line played great. I think that Georgia conceded a bunch of stuff to avoid long pass plays and to contain Milroe, both at the same time. To get there, they had to makes sacrifices at the LOS. It cost them the game.

They would not do that again, and if Alabama played Georgia 10 more times, Georgia would win almost all of those games.

I can see that but they had the advantage of still being a novel offense and Marshal was an expert at the RPO read.

I think they would have blasted us if we'd played them again this year.

Then again, I think they would have blasted anyone in the post-season.

I sure hope we can handle them in Tuscaloosa next year.

There's one clip of him (against KY I believe) where he literally pedals across about 1/3 of the field to work a receiver open in the end zone.

It's one of the more understated great plays from his time as QB.

I think Jase has a Covid year as well. We haven’t heard him either. Some speculation he will take it, hit the portal and land at Ole Miss.
